apex'i power intake

i was looking into the apexi power intake since i really don't want to go aem......i've heard that the cheapos on ebay are just as fine but i kinda of want a good filter.....does anyone have any experience with it? and to my knowledge if i get the kit.....you basically pull out the airbox and the filter just uses the stock piping? any comments are greatly appreciated

What's wrong with AEM? From the tests all the mags and online resources do it's the top dog. And as far as putting in the system I'm a little lost!? Is it a pipe w/ a filter or just a filter? Because if it's just a filter it better be in the correct shape because I can't see how you'd put anything else down in there. I don't know, maybe I'm forgetting what the stock intake looks like???

I believe that the only advantage of using the apex'i power intake it the design of the filter it self. I think you remove the stock air box and the apex'i intake has a small extention and the filter it self. You could get an ebay intake and use the apex'i filter, but I don't know if replacing the rest of the intake pipe will yield any extra gains.

How do the Iceman intakes compare to the AEM. I'm talking as a CAI.

As far as going with stock piping and just a cone filter or k&n drop in filter, I am thinking of going that route. I have a cold air intake right now. But CAI gives more hp than torque, and short ram
intakes give more torque, it seems to me for just quarter mile racing and shorter races going for more torque is a better idea since peak torque is achieved before peak hp.

Also I have heard that the stock plastic piping repels heat better than aftermarket intakes and It has a way better sound when used with a cone filter rather than with aluminum piping.

Thats my 2 cents.

yeah.....thats why i was looking into the apexi power intake....i could get a cheapo ebay intake.....but for the most part i heard you just need a good filter.....either k&n or apexi will do the trick i think....

Speaking of intakes. Anyone who is running either a AEM CAI like myself or another brand of CAI ever get the... ummm... *ffffffffffff puhhhhhhpppp* sound after turning off your car? I'm just wondering if that's normal or if something is wrong.

Just making sure, I've never heard another car sound like that. The ol' mechanic aka my old man said it was as well so I just had to get a second opinion here.

the only intake i would get imo would be an Iceman CAI, or the apexi you mentioned...

the apexi filter is the best on the market, and it does just replace the intake box.. i say go for it!

thats why i kinda like the apexi intake......minimal changing and as autoluder stated......the stock piping might help with heat issues......and the stock piping is also a pretty thick diameter....i think i'll go for it once i get enough money.....gotta save for the compustar alarm....

intake

I would think that the stock plactic plumbing is a lot thinker becuase it has alot of plastic support and is thick but no way do I believe it would pull moree air than my Injen polished silver alum . tube it weights less and you can actually here it sucking and pulling air in under throttle ...

It s just a four banger, and not like you have forced induction. Its not pulling in that much air anyways and the weight of the pipe has nothing to do with how hard it will suck air, You just hear more noise from an aluminum intake cause they accentuate all and every sound possible.
The key is a good filter and least heat possible.

intakes

ooooooohhhhhhhhh ok I quess that is why injen and aem spend crap loads of money on r and d and do not use plastic as a material source in there products --- I would wager that you could make an intake like you are talking about and compare it to the best intakes out there (aem v2 and injen) and they would make more hp all thru out the power band just look at import tuner or sport compact they test both of them ---

but the question really is how much more? an apexi intake is around 100 bux......haven't really looked into aem or any other highly known brands but they are around 200 bux (i'm pretty sure you can find cheaper).....am i gonna get double the hp gain for my extra 100 bux? if you just look at the intake....its not very complex with many bends....kinda like the 5th gen lude or many other cars....they have numerous bends so i can see why R&D can help improve flow thru many bends.....but our 4th gen ones are fairly simple imo.....most of my friends just tell me to get an ebay intake and k&n filter....they spent loads of $$ on their aem and now wish they would have gone the easier route......this is just my perspective on it.......
