Since the "racing" radiator is over twice as thick as the OE and I installed mine in the OE locations, I had to make modifications to the passenger fan housing and blades for clearance arounf the front engine mount. Plus to the front subframe for access to the lower fan mounting bolts and drain plug.
If all out racing is your goal for cooler engine temps (along with a different thermostat and switch) .... then yes. But if you are just after a 'cool' look then I would say no.
I am setting the car up as a trailer queen in autoxing and track days ... plus the old radiator was starting to leak. It was a convient time to make the switch.
I did have issues instralling my Koyo radiator. Nothing impossible but I had fitment issues.
i believe (Jim) had to actually grind part of the front x-member or some lower mount to be able to slide the radiator down into place, or something like that, he explained it all to me at NPM but I have a dodgy memory.
if I can find out whether or not one will fit in without having to make any kind of moderate-serious modification to fit it, I think I may call Mike, otherwise I'd just go with C&R
jim, goldenfir, haf fitment issues with a fan, one of them hit the front motor mount so he never put hte fan in, he said it never overheats evne wihtout hte fan because the radiator is just that nice.
but anyway i couldnt find a company with one of these in stock for 4th gens so i just bought a used h22 radiator from a total lude, it has the metal endtanks and the fans mount right onto it and thats all i really cared about
yeah I did have problems, but none that made it impossible to get in. They just made it a PITA.
I never did get another fan to replace the one that hits the motor mount and I have never had any problems. I have done everything from tracking and autox to sitting in traffic with the AC on and it never went over the halfway mark on the temp. So eventually I will get a low profile fan or somthing but its not really a neccesity.
To get it in, you just need to grind down the plug (its plastic) almost all the way so it won't hit the frame. I needed to remove the rubber feet on the bottom and remove one of the fans and thats it really. Oh I did need to trim the cap a little to get it to fit better but I could have just forced it.
I'm not sure why others didn't have problems, because I know I got the H22 one, it said it on the box and I double checked with the vendor. Wierd
