Anyone know how to get the 'Cruise Control' cover off right side of steering wheel??

Hello, I need to check out my cable reel since my SRS light is on and my horn and cruise control are not working. I got the torx screw off on the left side under the cover, I got the cover at bottom of steering wheel off, unplugged the airbag..etc.., yet I can't seem to get the cruise control cover off, tried prying it and looking for a way to get it off, alas cannot seem to find a way. I even have my new Helm's manual in which it doesnt give too much detail except labelling it as a cover that comes off, unless there's something I'm missing this sucker won't come off! I'm assuming the other torx screw is under it!

if anyone knows, tell me

thanks!

Have you tried removing the lower cover on the steering column and seeing if that gives you access to a screw or something?

iirc, i think you just have to pry it off. i think i used a flat head screw driver because i still have like indentations in my plastic. i remember dealing with the same problem tho. try http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-hub/fifth-hub.shtml

Thanks for replies, yes that link is a good one, I used a mixture of that and my helm's to get this far, yet the 5th steering wheel is different I guess because theres no panel on the right side, just the cruise control thing with no screw holes to get to or anything, I've tried prying so far, but I guess I should do it really hard? I'm paranoid haha, I will wait for more responses, if not then I will just get violent on it haha

I have a 92 Prelude factory service manual- the same the Honda shop mechanics use. I could scan and send some of the diagrams/directions if you want them out of the manual. There are a couple of diagrams I see which may help you out accessing the cable reel and steering wheel disassembly. If you want to email me for more specifics so I can set you up you can hit me at kmfarrell14@yahoo.com.

Kris

To everybody: I know it costs more than Helms or others, but the factory service manual is pricey but worth every penny. It has all the assembly/disassembly diagrams, wiring diagrams, troubleshooting flowcharts, etc. That book is the Prelude Owner's Bible and has helped me (and others) in so many ways. If you work on Preludes you can't live without it!

thats exactly what the helms manual does. ~1500 pages of all diagrams and step by step directions for replacements, and diagnostics... and AFAIK this is what all smaller shops and dealerships use.

I hadn't seen a Helms manual for any Preludes. The ones I have seen were pretty lame, and friends who had them always had to ask for help even though they had the manual for their cars. After those experiences I didn't even consider one and went with the Honda manual

you're thinking of the chilton manual... THE shop manual that all dealerships and most private mechanics use is called a helms manual because its printed and published by Helm Inc

this is something i dealt with when attempting the JDM climate control dealy.

hah, i remember my friend and i prying at the thing and just repeatedly saying "this is going to break.... now.... wow... hmm.... now....... wow well okay... hmmmm NOW..... ............ ....... ..... .......... hey it's off!"

check a manual if you can, but i'm pretty damn sure it just takes a lot of pulling and prying. after that, i'm pretty sure you can see the torx screws.

Lucke,

I was checking something out in my Prelude shop manual and it is not printed and published by Helm, Inc. The factory service manual is published by the Honda Motor Co. Service Publication Office. This is the same one the dealership mechanics use for reference and have on the shelves in the service area. I don't know if things changed since I got mine, but that's what it says...
