I have like three times on accident when I was shifting from 1st to second and it wouldent go in. So I was just wondering will this hurt anything, I will prob, never happen again its just I know the right point to shift now. I learn somthing new every day about her. I love ludes.
I did. In my F22B i was going down the freeway and some loser in a stang comes up beside me and wants to go, so i shifted into 2nd and let the clutch out (i assume i was doing about 80) when i thought i was shifting into 4th. Bad mistake. I have a no vyec, so it was pretty high pitch, it screamed. I was like "OH $HIT!"
I have hit the rev limit on my H23 a few times... its not a problem as long as you dont run against the limiter all the time. Thats what the limiter is there for... to save your engine from killing itself.
If you have a reprogrammed ECU with no limit, then you better make sure you dont mis-shift, or over rev. You will make power and such and be having a good time, then your engine goes boom and you start to cry
Hiting rev limiter while in gear accelerating will not do any harm to the engine. Spending a lot of time there will wear out the engine much sooner obviously. Going past rev limiter while misshifting isn't good at all, since there is nothing to stop mechanical force. You could endup throwing a rod, main bearing and more likely bent valves. Once you bend valves you will have to rebuild the whole engine. So it makes sense to learn how to shift properly aspecially if you are new to driving a stick.

Yes but even if you are good everyone makes mistakes. I have but I always catch my missed downshifts before I drop the clutch cause i can tell by the feel of the location of the knob wether or not I'm in the correct gear

Yes you are right, mistakes do happen. It's not a mistake if it happens 3 times, it's called now knowing how to shift. I can shift through all 5 gears with my pinky, and no I'm not being a smart ass. The stick shift is designed in such way that if you know how to shift and understand the mechanics of it you will absolutly never ever miss a shift, I can guarantee you that.
i've hit my rev limiter in 5th gear about 30 times (150mph - determined by tire diameter, final drive, and 5th gear ratios). That gear puts the most strain on your engine, and I haven't blown anything up. I have 145,000 miles on it too.
the reason I missshifted is cause it would not go into second, trust me I know how to drive a 5 speed, but it just kept happening wheen I shifted at red line. So now i shift a 7100 and its fine, I doubt i have any engine damage thow cause I hear feel or see any difference.
My 93 usdm vtec hits the rev limiter a little bit right after 7000 rpm. But i have a question will not letting the car warm up make the rev limiter engage sooner?
Originally posted by Brady92/4WS not letting a vtec warm up will make it so vtec doenst engage, and than you basically have an si with less torque and i think 7000 or 6500 rev limit
wow i was wondering about that...one night i had to drive a friend home and i didnt let my car warm up so when i gunned it i started to bounce off the limiter at 6500...i was nervous as hell about that ill now haha
