Anyone got to retrofit hood dampers on their 4th gen
Hey everyone, so lots of companies are making hood dampers (hydraulic) so no need for engine prop up pole thingie. I couldnt find an application for 4th gens (what a surprise!!) but was wondering if anyone got a modified one from a diff car to work?
back in the day... on hondaprelude.com, a gentleman by the name of PreludeV1 put dampers on his cf hood.
i don't remember off of which car he got them from, but if anyone remembers him, hit him up.

If you want to make a project of it...Custom brackets and pick the exact gas shock you like. Some can even hold various positions in the middle while still popping all the way up when you first open it. I've looked into this for my trunk, but don't have time for the project yet.

Yup, I saw his car at the first LFW. The dampers were too strong though and made the hood pop up a bit at the area they were attached to. Very good looking though for doing all the work himself.
My brother has a 97 acura cl, and it came stock with hood dampers. I was thinking of just picking up a pair of those from a junkyard and retro-fitting them on my car. I figured it wouldn't be difficult at all to fit on... just a little bit of drilling & maybe welding.
to address the cf hood thing...
"most carbon fiber hoods are not of good quality and build as people may think...the force of the struts while opening the hood may cause the hood to crack at points of mounting...this applies to closing the hood as well, as there is a bit of initial force needed to close it....testing and fitment of the dampers were performed on OEM hoods, and thus the use of the dampers on carbon fiber hoods is not recommended and is mentioned as a disclaimer to customers...."
I was checking out the Tein hood dampers also, but I remember reading a list of fittings and 4th gen. Preludes were not on it. I saw in an earlier post where someone mentioned a hood prop (not like the damper, but mounted in the same spot) with a few holes in each side so you can open it to a number of heights- that one is made by Lokar.
Lokar's props are chromed and look nice. I have seen their ads in one of my car mags and even on the car shows they have on ESPN/ESPN2. I don't know if the website is actually lokar.com or not, but I know that is the correct spelling of the name if you want to check it out.

that project is still on your "to do" list huh, hahaha ... I was wondering about a lude application also .... I think most honda application would work ... but you would have to fab. something up to make it work with the lude..... like a slide rail bracket with a lock-slot at the end or something...
