Antenna Question

Is the antenna on a 93 SI electric or fixed? i need to replace the whole assembly, what is the easiest way to get to it, from inside the trunk?

Looking for advice from anyone who has had to do this

The antenna is electric if it is an original piece. The assembly is behind the trunk trim, bolted at the bottom. You must remove most of the trunk lining to get the side piece out.

You will need an "antenna socket" which is a specialty item that is notched to undo the trim on the outside of the car. You might be able to half ass it using a slot screwdriver, I wouldn't reccomend that.....

Good Luck!

Yeah, for the outside, just take a flathead screwdriver, place it on the grove, and lightly tap it with a hammer counter-clockwise until you can turn it using your hand.

For the inside, just unbolt partly and pull down the assembly (with the outside removed, of course) so the nut can go through the larger part of the hole.

Disconnect the antenna wire, the power connector, and the rubber hose easily comes out.

I recommend getting one of these . Costs $40 which is much cheaper than even a used Honda piece. I have one in my car, pretty easy to install and has worked fine for 2 years (a little noisy in motion though.)

that depends on what kind of CD player you have. Sony, Alpine, and SOME Kenwood models only raise it up when the radio tuner is on.

I say, screw the antenna altogether! Get satellite radio and just shave it!

Ya, it works. There's a piece of metal strapping that comes with it. About 3 holes from one end bend it 90 degrees in a vice. Screw that short end to the bottum of the assembly. When it's hanging in place use the factory bolt/nut to hold it in place. It's pretty straight forward, the wiring is easy too.
