ANOTHER super stealth sub enclosure.

I snagged a spare glove box assembly from the junkyard this weekend. Since my 92 is devoid of a pasenger side airbag, there is a rather large cavity inside the dash where the SRS unit would normally reside. I'm sure you can see where I'm headed with this. . .

A sealed fiberglass enclosure for a single 8" sub located within the dash. Hopefully I can squeeze about .25 cubic feet outta there, which should be plenty for a nice small-box sub. It should be pretty much invisable, and not intrude at all into the passenger cabin at all. I think a nice SQ 8" with about 125 watts rms should be plenty for my musical tastes (also looking into the Elemental Designs E8A, which can handle double that). I havent started construction yet, proabably next week. This project is a little pointless, hoever, considering my CD player died about 2 months ago and I can't afford to replace it.

Clever idea, but won't that cause the dash to rattle?

^^ Yeah, I know my dash rattles like h*ll with my 12 in the trunk. Might end up chasing buzzes all over the dash.

That said if you can make it work it would be great. You would have more of a sorround with you bass. good luck

Buzzes and rattles are a fact of life with subwoofers, I don't doubt doubt I'll have to chase some.

I'd be more inclined to build a false floor in the passenger footwell and mount maybe an 8" sub in there. An 8 wouldn't need much room to move air, making it pretty stealth beneath the carpet.

What about building a box into the '92 center console?

Yea, thats what im thinking. If you could build it into the center console. Under the dash too much rattle. Losing too much floor space is a nono. But the center consle would rock.

I was REALLY close to trying that. I almost went through with it, but I realized the large consoles are actually fairly expensive, and I didn't have a spare. If someone wants to have theirs done, I'd be more than willing to take a stab at it.

I might be interested somewhere down the line. What are you calling expensive? I grabbed mine from a junkyard for around $50. Could probably buy the '93 console instead and trade it to someone who wants to get rid of the big box, it seems like there's always someone asking about that.

$50-$100 is about the going rate for that console. I looked at a junkyard for one in poor condition (because it was going to be modified anyway), but never found one.

I really should have traded before going to the junk yard. And if that weren't bad enough, I somehow managed to leave my '93 console in my old dorm room when I moved out. Not only did I lose the parts, I got charged for trash removal.

the center console can hold like 3 or 4 little 8's I think that would be off the hinges

Four end one end I don't even think would fit. Due to the width the box would have to overhang the seats. IMO you might as well take out the rear seats and put subs worth while in there.
