Another JDM mirror question --> About the mirrors themselves

hey, for those of you swapped the JDM mirrors onto your cars, how much does the whole angling/magnification difference bug ya? I can get use to using a "passenger side" mirror for my driver's side, but it doesn't adjust very much outwards, and that's starting to bug me. Can I just replace the lens from my USDM mirror onto it, or is there something different about the adjusting motor as well?

On another note, has anyone swapped the JDM fold motor into the USDM housing? I've read here and ther on PO about it, but don't remember any details on the how-to. Thx.

Yes, like 5 people have swapped from the 4th gen JDM to the 4th gen USDM housings... supposedly you just have to modify the skeleton.

I have Spoon mirrors, so the whole magnification thing is diff for me

also, still, no one has swapped from JDM 4G to USDM 5G yet

hmm... i wonder what kind of modification is needed to fit the fold motor into a USDM mirror, the housings look the same from the outside...

You can easily pop the lens from the USDM mirror and snap it into the your JDM one. The angles are a bit different but if you set the passenger side lens as far out as possible and the driver's side as inwards as possible (or was it the other way around?) i get almost the exact visibility as when i had my USDM mirrors

I dunno, I get dizzy looking at my driver's side (JDM passenger side) mirror for too long, and even at the extreme adjustment away from the car, I can see a good part of my rear 1/4 in the mirror.

I've been able to pop the lenses out since posting, wasn't hard at all. I'm guessing by comparing the two once they were out that it's all in the mirrors, not the adjustment motors, so I can swap my USDM mirrors into the JDM housings, and it'll be just like USDM mirrors, except the fold.

... now to figure out how to swap the jdm fold motor into a usdm housing.

hehe, btw, how ya doin' Humberto?

Not bad, Adam it's been a little while
I know Hien(midnkite-lude) was one who accomplished the gut swap into the USDM housing, he even did a write-up if i remember correctly. In my case i don't think it's worth it, since i already went through the trouble of having the JDMs painted and all, and i've also heard the driver's side mirror will not fold all the way in when using the UDSM housings. Go figure..

yes i have done this. umm it was easy with a dremal. the metal is so easy to cut and grind down. just search for my sn, the pictures suck. but ti can be done. it will give you normal USDM adjutablity and give you folding option. one thing to note if your a JDM perfectionest then this will not be good. because the driver side mirror dont' fold in allt he way and hte passager side fold in too much.
