Another installment of 'is this Lude worth fixing?'

Hey guys,

I'm in search of a good car for my wife and I don't mind it being a project. We came across a 94 VTEC in Azure Blue. It was accidented in the front and the last owner opted not to fix it. The Lude has 140K miles on it, rebuilt engine (from Honda apparently) and a new clutch. It's a 'clean title' according to CarFax (not SALVAGED). From what I can see, this is what it would need...

- Hood
- Driver’s side outer fender
- Driver’s side inner fender
- Front Windshield
- Driver’s side headlight
- Driver’s side outer door panel skin
- Front bumper
- Bulkhead upper frame (radiator support beam)
- Bulkhead middle frame (beam in front of the radiator)
- Axle back muffler
- Air Intake System
- Front seats (I have a set already).

I’m leaving out some stuff here and there (i.e. front grill inserts, signal light, power steering reservoir, cruise control unit, power steering pulley belt, windshield fluid reservoir tank, etc).

The current owner wants ~2000$ for the entire car.

What do you guys think?

Thoughts?

Keith

If the they have the reciepts from honda for the rebuild and it was in the last 40k miles, then I would offer $1800. Car looks nice, as long as you don't mind doing some body work. I hate body work personally, but that's just me

Yeah sure, I'm estimating about another 3K$ in parts and labour to get it back on the road. So after about 5K$ total, I'll have a 4th Gen VTEC on the road.

Oh, and would definetly do a compression test on the engine if you can get everything out of the way of the pulleys without too much trouble. Car looks a bit rice, may have been driven hard.

if its in your budget, then get it, deals are different from place to place. So let me know, cause i got a used front bumper that needds body work i can sell you, with some stock headlights, stock corners, and i can find you a hood if you want i got some stock pulleys, not sure bout the belts but yea, if u dont mind the project, and you got the money, then go for it, i mean the motor and tranny alone are just 1400 just about if not more, so you payin for a clean interior, and a pretty decent body, with wheel and tires, and lets not for get the altezzas , so i say go for it.

Yeah, well I already have a bumper here locally for 100$, I can get a CF hood for 350$, JDM black housing lights for 250$, and I budget about 100$ for a used AEM CAI and 300$ for a decent exhaust...

I'd talk him down if possible, just because parts are missing. Def. check out the engine. The interior looks like it is in great condition. You also might as well repaint the whole car....
Does it look like the engine is tweaked?

What year is it?

Great project car, better than the previous one you were looking at.

Charlie, read my first post foo! 94 VTEC!

It had an intake and exhaust prior to the accident. Right now, I'm thinking about just getting it on the road first... then worry about comestic stuff afterwards.

My advice to make it a bit easier .. go in with somebody for a front clip .. give them the engine and take all the panels ... the door will probably need to be found locally but its definately salvageable .. just a lot of work .. does it run ??

How about all the other little things .. cant forget about them ..

well if you are good with body work, maybe. Depends how bad yoyu want a prelude.

If your going to body shop it, your looking at about $3000 to get a good job done minimum.

That's gonna cost more than 3 grand to fix, unless you've got a hookup at a body shop. Paint alone will cost over a grand just to paint what needs replacing.

It's going to cost more than 3 grand to paint the fender, door and bumper?

(remember, I said I would get a CF hood. 2-3000$ to just get the car back on the road)

I'll bet he takes $1800 if you got cash-in-hand.

3g's for a paint job?! You might as well get a full color change/paint job.

C,

If you want a quality job it is going to cost you some money. I paid $3k to have HALF of my car painted and some door dings removed.

Worth every penny when I take the car cover off.

If you plan to make the car a show car, then I agree... but I just want a good job... remember it's a 10 year old car. I'm not going to have the paint job worth more than the car itself. This doesn't mean I'll get some joe blow bodyshop to do the work, just one that does it right.

Read again Keith.

I said it would cost more than 3 grand total to fix. Alone, for the paint, it is going to cost over 1,000 since they have to paint the new front bumper, new driver's fender, paint the new/repaired door, blend the pass. fender, blend the rear 1/4 panel...etc etc.

I'd guess that it'll cost close to 4500 to fix it.
