Another h22 swap: how to verify the condition of the motor?

Hey luders. I recently got a kick ass deal for a h22 for $500. The guy had it for a year, bought it from hmotorsonline (no proof ), dropped it by black trax (reputable shop). 5 months ago, the car got hitted pretty bad, and it has been sitting on the driveway since then. He said he's applying for donation for the car. This H22 has around 60k - 70k mileage, new clucth, m2b4 tranny which means LSD!!

If I do the swap by myself, is there anything I should look for before buying it? like how to test the condition of the motor, legality for the swap, papers, smog, compression test, anything else? And he needs my F22 cuz he needs it in the car in order to donate it. I need to do this carefully, and my budget is tight. I don't think I can bring it to a shop.

Thanks guys

If its from Hmotors, it will most likely have a stamp that reads "HMO" on the front of the head, block, and transmission.

Hey, finally got to see the engine. It looks good. I found the tag m2b4 (LSD ), and I only find a single "HM" stamp in the front of the motor next to where it says H22, so I believe it is from hmotorsonline. However, I couldn't find the VIN number on the engine Everything else looks good, date and engine codes match to the shop recieve.

Now, i think i need to find a shop to do the swap for me.

Where is it leaking from? Since the engine is going to be out of the car, you might as well change out all the important oil seals: rear main seal (hardest one to get to), cam seals, cam plug, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, and possibly the balancer shaft seals and front main seal.
