another Engine Malfunction lamp (emissions) problem, input appreciated.

Well, my malfunction indicator lamp (emissions lamp) just came on... like usual at a horrible time. I had to parallel park downhill, put it in reverse, gased it.... clunk. I dont know what the sound was but immediatly the malfunction light came on. I drove home, everything seemed fine, I thought I would
reset the ECU, but I knew that wouldnt fix the problem this time. I reset it, and like I thought, the light came back. I thought I would look over everything under the hood, I did, everything "looks" fine. Took it out for another ride, put
it in reverse and past 2500RPMs, it sounds bad. Any ideas from any of you guys what it could be?
Car drives fine forward, lousy in reverse.
Thanks.

Sorry...I reallly dont know...Id pay the $80 bucks and have a pro look at it unless someone knows for sure?
