another el gauge question

i am putting 94 vtec 5speed gauges into a 92 Si auto->5spd h22 swapped prelude. i have the entire upper harness for the '94 dash but I cant find the plug for this harness...93 helms says here:

when i look under the dash those wires are under a white plastic cover above the pedals and steering column. should i remove the cover, assuming its the correct location and if so will it be compatible? or should i splice the plugs in for the gauges based off the information in the FAQ?

Thanks

Hey berk, good to see you on some place other then ohpoc :P Everything should have plugged in exactly the same except on the far right side of the dash there is an extra harness. This harness needs to be grounded to something. I didnt mine at first and my turn signals on the els didnt work quite right...I dont think I did ne splicing except for the extra harness..

if u need help aim me @ oldboymd. or if ur near cbus area i can even come help ya out...gl

Why do you need the connector for that harness? It doesn't have any play with the upper harness.

ok...im still confused. i got the gauges, they dont plug into the existing harness the plugs are actually different.

recall the car was origionally an automatic if it matters i dunno

so i have the entire harness for the top part of the dash, i just have no clue where it plugs in. should i be cutting these plugs off and trying to splice them in? im lost here...

You can splice them in...but it's easier just to swap out the whole dash harness. You'll have to pull the tweeter covers off, pull the fuel/temp gauges out, unplug the dash harness at the fuse box by the driver's feet, unplug the roof/cruise/dimmer controls, and unplug the dash harness up under the dash on the passenger side. You can see where it plugs in when you get the passenger tweeter off. The new dash harness will swap right out for the old dash harness. On the passenger side plugs, you'll have one extra plug that you don't need, but you'll need to ground the black wire from it, or else your turn signals will flash (on the gauges) like they're on hazard mode. They will work from the outside. Make sure you ground this wire in a good spot, because if you don't, you can fry the dimmer module. BTW, did you get the dimmer module with your dash harness? If not, your gauges will be on full blast...the old dimmer module won't work with the EL gauges.

Mine...

Inbetween (it's not as bad as it looks. I just work messily.):

okay, im getting close. one problem i ran into is with the OEM fogs. UGH the harness I got has no plug for the fog switch? i think it has the dimmer (black box behind the clock?)

Yeah, the EL gauge dash harness doesn't have a fog plug because the stock location for the fog switch in 94-96 was in the center console. Just trim the plug from your old harness and wire it directly into the foglight relay. Do you have the tweeter cover fogswitch? The dimmer is indeed the black box behind the clock. In my picutres, it's the black box attached to the white plastic.

no pics, camera died. ill take some soon. i did take side-by-side pics of each plug on both harnesses...hopefully useful to someone in the future.

almost forgot-- the SRS light is on? is that normal?? i plugged in the blue plug to the fuse box

I dunno on the SRS light. I know you can just removed the bulb from the back of the cluster and it won't ever light up.
