amazing results....balancer shaft belt removed...plus..

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share, I finally got my car running smooth thanks to Todd. We replaced most of the oil gaskets; one of which was the oil cooler seal, which was flat and cracking when we looked at the old gasket.
Then I had the timing belt redone because of some bs screw that was floating around in the belt channel and almost stripped the belt all the way through.

So in the process I decided to take off the balancer belt for more power. I must say I am amazed that there wasn't anymore vibration from the engine than it already had before. I could barely tell the difference in the car. And the power gain was incredible!!! The engine feels like it’s freed up 10x more.

Along with all this I had the valve adjustment done (engine purrs like a cat). And got the VAFC moderately tuned. I am going back Sunday to get the VAFC fully tuned.

3rd gear now takes me past 85mph; I pull HARD like no other! 1st gear is a joke. So I am very happy with the results.

Just wanted to share!!!! If you guys are leaking oil, and there is oil all over the back of the block, it maybe a good idea to check that oil cooler seal; I heard they are one of the main sources for leaks.

-charlie

BTW- Would anyone know what would cause my rpm at idle to go up and down (about 50-80rpms). This is what should happen when the A/C is on I guess, but the idle is erratic with the A/C off.

I'm assuming the removal of the belt has left your harmonic balancer null& void..any issues with longevity?

According to honda, the balancer belt is only for drivers comfort.

Yeah I reported the same results. I dyno'ed only 3whp and 2wtq across the powerband but the difference in throttle response and acceleration from drag on the crank was huge.

hmmmm I'm wondering if I should do this on my JDM engine before I swap it in. Which belt is the balancer belt?

So did you just take the belt off or did you remove the shafts and plug the holes?

I had about 20,000 on my engine with no balancer belt, when I removed the bearings they still looked like new.

Im pretty sure he just removed the belt. I was considering blocking mine off, but i dont really want to deal with it now.

Sweet Charlie. I might take mine out when I get my timing belt changed. As for the erratic idle, try cleaning out your idle screw. My friend had a similar problem in his car and that was the cause. It's an easy fix so you can start there.

^^ yes it does, if you take off the side cover, where he timing belt is look all the way down at he bottom where the crank shaft pulley is there should be a small belt connected to it and two small pulleys on each side that you would have to take off before changing the timing belt... that is your balancer belt
