The time is 3am EST in the city of Grandville, nearby Grand Rapids, MI and is a pretty much dominantly white christian community, descent place to live.
Just coming home, I stop by a gas station just yards from my apartment, My girlfriend and I pull in and make our way around the gas pumps to the front of the building and park parallel with the pumps nearest the entry door.
at 1 o'clock in front of me I notice 4 younger black males in a white mid 80's cutlass 4 door in rough condition, thought nothing of it, prolly wanted something to drink and a pack of smokes right?
I walk in and grab my 2 litre of Coke and proceed to walk to the cashier, pay my 1.25$ and leave.... but wait a minute, as i'm approaching the exit I notice this same white mid 80's cutlass going in reverse and lining up at the gas pump parallel with me just 12-16" away from my driver's side door, also note that since my girlfriend was in the car, I left it running.
Again, I think nothing of it, they just need a few gallons of gas? RIGHT?
Well, to my surprise, as I walk out I notice the front passenger door of the cutlass open so I began to feel a bit concerned as nobody was interested in pumping gas into the cutlass, so I walk quickly to the driver's side of my car and yell to crystal to become aware of the possible situation.
I jump in my car, throw the 2litre in the backseat and think I was being paranoid until I hear the people in the cutlass talking, yelling etc
So, I put it in 1st and take off normally, but then I notice as soon as I attempt to leave the cutlass comes full throttle and attempts to somehow block me into the parking lot, as all the exit options run through my mind I decide to take the inclined exit to my right at an angle and with those right on my tail, I hammer first and VTEC on outta there, they attempted to follow but decided to turn around knowing they weren't going to catch me.
So what is the lesson here?
Is there one?
what is wrong with people.... a simple complement like "hey, nice car" would have been much more appreciated
well i'm not some wuss or anything, i'm 6'3"/210lbs and down to fight or whatever, but one thing i'm not dealing with is damage to my girlfriend, my car i slave to pay for/maintain and un-neccesary actions
I always try to stay aware of my surroundings. I AM small, I'm only 5'11" and weigh a hefty 140. I don't get gas or anything late at night. I make sure no one is follwing me, eyeing my car etc. If something looks suspicious, I take off right away.

Yes, but can you beat a bullet? Best defense is to not be there. Glad everything was alright. And if they were going to say "nice car" why park so close to it and start to get out. Roll the window down and talk.
Hell man, you shouldn't be going to gas stations at 1 in the morning ... i stay away from those time to go to places like that...
but same here, i'm small, like 5'7 130 lbs and i'm out if i see anything weird going on.
glad everything is cool with ya and ur girl
