Alignment issues in the rear....
I apologize in advance for sounding completely ignorant in this thread, but alignment terms and the parts involved are something I'm not too familiar with. Anyway, here is my deal....
My car sit for quite some time, and a few months back I got it on the road again. I noticed the handling was a bit odd, but I couldn't find a shop that would line it up. They all said it was too low. After a while I notice that my back tires wear worn badly. I drove all the way to another town to get it lined up, and here's what I found out. I hope I can explain this enough for everyone to understand.....Apparently there are rods coming from each rear wheel that attach to a big metal peice that runs the width of the car. Where these rods attach is a cam type thing to adjust toe ( I think it's toe). I guess this big metal doohicky is screwed up and isn;t holding the cam correctly on the drivers side. So after paying for the alignment, (the dude did all he could) I drove down the road about 3 miles, hit a bump and it felt like someone had a steerinf wheel attached to my rear end and just cut it as hard as the could. My car was all over the road. It is driveable (kinda) but my rear driver's side tire is noticeably pointed inward.
The point of this thread is to see if anyone has a diagram of this area of the car (I can't find it in my repair manual), if anyone else has had this happen, or if anyone knows where I might find this big metal bracket thing.
Sorry for the long post, and again, sorry for my lack of terminology.
