Air Struts- good or bad? - Honda Prelude Forum

What do you guys think about the air struts from Ricky Racer? THe ones that are adjustable with a bunch of switches so you can lower or raise your height from inside? Are they any good? Will they help me with ET's or launches? Or are they just for show?

I know they make your handling suck...around corners and such...expect not to have the great suspension Ludes are known for...

but I must admit, the adjustabilty and sheer coolness of it is intriguing, this Type R around here has the Air Stuts, he does the Quater but I don,t know his times etc.

They handling is great, nothing gets more attention
then the sound PSSSSSSSSSST when u slamm that **** to the floor and tuck rim. If you have a kit like me it will be like a hair from the floor and nothing looks better then that. As for as handling i have noticed no difference from stock ride is as good if not better then stock. But my handling will always be good i have 4ws.

Maybe street handling will be close to stock, but performance-wise, I would bet that you destroyed the great handling of the car for the most part.

If you're into the low rider scene, air struts are cool, but if you want to do any type of racing, stay away from them.

Yes i must admit, when i saw AND heard the Integra rise up ass first then the front I was grinning from ear to ear, it looked sweet.

When I said handling, I meant when you push the car....you won't be able to push your car as much as if it had normal strut set-up, like auto cross or very aggressive driving..

but i push it sometimes im more into show so i dont have to many speed mods and i dont race so i guess i dont push it as hard as many out there.

Oh, thats cool..believe me, if you didn't loose some handling and they didn't add some weight I'd pick up a set fast...hell, you never know, I just might

I shaved my trunk molded my back bumper and door handle, and did some other **** to it.

I am going with an air ride setup for sure in the winter

9 gallon tank
180 psi 3/4 hp compressor w/filter
4 300psi fast valves
300 psi billit manifold
1/2 lines
circit breaker/solenoid/oiler for the compressor
accumulators & a 30 switch box.

Make sure you get good parts for you car and dont get a crappy setup, I have also been thinkin about going with hydro's, the sheer amount of lift with hydro's is much more than air, you can get 10 inchz with hydro with air you gonna get about 5.

yer getting a 10 switch box with 30 positions not a 30 switch. Your getting your kit from AIM or Blow Jax i heard they suck man. but from wut you said that kit seems pretty bad ass. the reason they suck is they dont get much drop

Still debating where I should buy my kit. hopefully AirRide Technologies will have a kit soon!

I am debating to go with a hydro setup, I know the air ride will be a bit smoother.

Btw: Where are you gettin your stuff from?

I am leaning more and more towards a hydro setup. Lemme check out that site, I read a couple things about them.

I am in Socal, and there is this highly reputable hydro installer here. I called him about seting up air cylinders, and he said he could install a hydro system that would be able to hop real high and would ahve such a good ride that he would garentee i would like the ride. The only thing is he said it would cost $3500 to cover parts and labor. Hydros are too expensive and messy if you ask me.

u need say 3 batteries 2 pumps and 8 dumps. no trunk or backseat with air u use however many compressors and wut ever size tank u want. and u use the baterry u have. u leak air instead of hydro juice. air is just as fast but its more jumpy not as smooth as dros. and u for like 2000 u can get a good ass setup for air. Installation is a snap. If i can do it anyone can.

Thanks for the Help errorr. After talkin to some guys, I sorta modified my air setup.

2x 3 gallon tanks
2x 1.5 hp compressors
10x 5/8 Parker valves [for rear 3 wheel]

How do you find your 1/5 hp compressor? How long can ya play around before ya have to wait for it to fill the tank?

i plan on getting one they are 100% duty wont burn out unlike the 1/5 hp.
