aftermarket steering wheel now lost 4ws

Since changing my standard steering wheel to a race one i have lost several things. The horn (which i have sorted out), the auto cruise (which i couldn't care less about) and the 4 wheel steering (which i really, really, really want back!!!!!!!!).... The 4ws was awesome and i miss it!!! I still have the original steering wheel, and am sure that something can be done to get it back up and working without too much hassle, but i'm not an electrician and really don't know how to do it....

any advice

There is a sensor in the stock wheel that relay's the steering angle to the 4WS computer. Without finding a way to reuse that sensor, your 4WS will be on the bench so to speak.

Watching this thread because I'm likely going to replace my steering wheel and have 4WS too - I figured this would be an issue though, knowing how the 4WS system works.

Tyler is bang on, the stock wheel is effectively a part of the 4WS system. I looked for ages to find a solution but to no avail, so I just stuck with the original wheel because I didn't want to lose the 4WS.

IIRC, it's a ring on the back of the steering wheel that is used in tandem with the sensor - there's no way to apply this ring to an aftermarket wheel? I'll have to check my Helms....

I have an aftermarket steering wheel using a HKB hub adapter and still have 4ws functioning properly.

90% of the time its simply because the 4ws sensor is not aligned properly. If it is indeed aligned, it is because the adapter plate is not sitting tight enough on the sensor plate to turn it at the same rate as the wheel - and will trip the 4ws error.

Fix:

Ad an additional washer that encompasses the spline so that it pushes on to the ring when you torque the hub kit down.

Also - for cruise control, the hkb kits come with cruise buttons as part of the hub and the correct kits will have the correct matching plugs for the standard CC.

4 months of use and still going strong!

Wow, that's awesome news! The HKB hub adaptor you have, is it a model specific for the 4WS? The only one I can find online with a decent description is here, though it doesn't specifically list if there is a version for 4WS or mention the cruise control. Good news though!!

There's no model specific to 4ws, cruise control buttons remain the same but cruise control plugs can vary - cut and make your own plug if you want.
