Aftermarket Seat Question

Anyone here have some aftermarket seats on their ride? I am considering a set and was wondering if I can use the brackets and sliders from my stock seats and if it was possible to use my stock seat belts instead of some aftermarket ones. Thanks.

For a 4th Gen, and for most Hondas, I believe, you can't modify your stock brackets to work w/ aftermarket seats, to my knowledge (and I did a lot before I bought my Recaro SRDs). You'll have to buy aftermarket brackets and sliders for your aftermarket seats (just make sure that you buy ones that are compatible w/ the particular brand of seat that you're buying).

i've seen stock brackets modified to fit aftermarket seats...pretty ghetto if you ask me. I think it's a lot safer just to spend the extra money to get the proper brackets for your application.

most aftermarket brackets have locations where you can bolt your stock seatbelt equipment to...at least i know bride and wedge brackets do

Yup, Wedge brackets have the stock seatbelt holes...very easy to hook up, too. I wouldn't try to jury-rig a set of stock brackets and sliders for aftermarket seats, b/c they just weren't made for aftermarket applications...too much of a stretch, if you ask me. I would hate to get into an accident, and have the ghetto-rigged brackets and sliders fail on me, b/c I wanted to save 2-3 hundred bucks.

Thanks for input guys. I am not concerned about the rails nor brackets. I was gonna pick up a set anyway. Just trying to save some money if I can. My main concern was the seatbelt thing. I would really like to keep my stock belt.

It'll be NO problem keeping your stock belt. I have a harness on my side, and the stock belt on the passenger, b/c I couldn't afford two harnesses.

For the rear attachment points, w/ the Takata, you have to remove the seatbelt buckle, and screw in the two brass eye-screws, and then you clip the harness into the eye-screws. For the front attachment points, you remove the buckle, screw in one eye-screw there (right side of driver seat), and on the left side of the driver seat, you screw in the remaining eye-screw into the hole in the bracket for the SRD seat. Make sense? All four points of the Takata have silver metal clips that clip around the eye-screws.

So your harnesses hook to the seats? Most of the harness I've seen have some sort of roll cage or bar that they are welded to.

Do you have the ability to take any pics?

What Takata belts do you have?

Nah, like I said, the front mounts of the harness attach to attachment points on the brackets (on sides of the seat)--the Takata comes w/ 4 eye-screws, two of them screw into the bracket for the lap belt, and the remaining two screw into the holes created by pulling the rear seat belt (this is where the two shoulder harness belt points attach). I've seen what you're talking about, where harnesses attach to a bar of a rollcage that goes behind one or both seats, but this Takata isn't like that. I think my model is an MPH-360, or something like that, but you DON"T need a roll cage for the Takata I have (in fact, I haven't seen any takatas on the market that attach like that).

ah,

Okay, the two rear parts of the belt go into the mount points of the stock rear seat belt and you remove the stock rear seat belt?

Do they hook on the two lower mount points or the upper shoulder mount point and one lower mount point? (my guess is both lowers).

I'm sorry if I seem like I'm not getting it, I just want to be clear before spending $1055 on a set of them.

They're like 527.50 (w/ shoulder pads) from inlinefour.com. Is that about what you paid?

For the belts... the ones that go over your shoulder will mount to the rear seats lower seat belt mounts. You can still have rear seat belts if you want to lay them over each other but trust me, no one will want to sit back there cause the belts are in the way. As for the waist belt, they'll hook up to the bottom of the seat mounting position, the ones found in the rear.

One of the lower attachment points (I can't remember if it's front or rear, but it'll make sense when you pull your rear seat(s)

The list on inlinefour for $427 each, not 527. Talk to turboevo, too...not sure if he has any left, but he was blowing them out on PO a few months ago. I need to see if he has any left, b/c I want to put a harness in my passenger side after I do my head swap & buy VTEC parts (hehehehe).

After reading your FAQ about the harness install (sorry I didn't explain mine as well), I was wondering something--wouldn't you be equally at risk in a non-harness equipped car after a roll over as being in a car w/ a harness & no roll cage?

I was thinking about that same thing on the way home and my guess would be this:

If you are in regular seat belts, you have more wiggle room and could duck down and to the center of the car so the door panels might stop the roof from crushing down on you.

If you are in harnesses then you would be held to the seat and couldn't move your body to the center of the car and duck, you would then be fair game to be whomped on the head by the roof.

Just my guess.

I only almost rolled my Jeep Liberty (you know, that thing that's taller than it is long) once...so I think I'm going to take my chances w/ out a cage as well.

Yeah, I definately think I'm too tall for a cage. Any guys out there who are around 6'4" and have cages?
