after the greddy header installation

well wednesday afternoon i spent installing the greddy ss header.

the install went smoothly besides a couple of difficult bolts. anyways my question is, after the install i took the car for a test drive. the motor certainly climbs the power band much quicker now, but i noticed a high-pitched whistling/tingy sound from 3000rpm+. i didn't think it could be an exhaust leak because i thought they always made a sort of 'pfft, pfft, pfft' sound. so i called a local shop and they said that it is normal because, what i'm hearing is some sort of frequency sound similar to when you rub your finger on a wine glass. has anyone ever heard of this before, or experienced the same sound? thanks in advance.

Nice header, almost makes me wish I had a h22

When I installed my dc header I didn't notice any sound like you described. The only thing I noticed after the header install was that my exhaust sounded louder.

did you replace all the gaskets when you installed the header? If you didn't you may have a small leak but if you did maybe it will just take a few days for everything to "settle in".

After my GReddy install I never noticed an abnormal sound either.

Give it a week and then if the sound is still present then there is something wrong. Was the exhaust manifold gasket replaced or did you use the original one? They are meant to only be used once so they should be replaced if the header is replaced.

Also, after two days of driving you should retorque the exhaust manifold bolts. GReddy suggests you do this because after they are heated for the first time, they tend to loosen when they cool down. When I retorqued mine, I was surprised how loose they actually were.

Dude, are you serious? I've never heard of a Greddy H23 header. I'm going to look right now!

Do they really? I was not aware that they started to produce exhaust parts for the H23.

I've only seen their exhaust systems and the stainless header for the H22. Of course the exhaust systems can be modified easily to fit the H23.

My shop has the updated greddy book from sema. and they dont' do list a prelude si appliaction, but cause of ther stupid mistake it is an error. how do i know well the year is listed 93-96 and it list the engine as a DOHC Vtec engine in the Note section

You didn't notice any performance gains?

not much performance gains...maybe a little high end. For me personally the price of a header doesn't justify the performance gains.

Can you replicate the noise at idle? If so have someone help you find the leak.

Damn, that sucks to hear. But still, it sounds better, and looks better under the hood, so I'm gonna get it anyway.

Before I had my DC header I test fit a GReddy one on my engine. It fit and everything... looked exactly like the one pictured above.

did this every get resolved I wonder? I have that same whistling sound, it sounds kinda like a volkswagen. It is more noticeable on teh interior than the exterior. It is loudest under load and is there but faint when cruising. It goes away at high rpm's though.

I thought maybe it was because I blocked the EGR valve it was a whistle from the manifold sucking air from someewhere but I am starting to rule that out. I am thinking it might be from that custom collector I had put on my car, maybe its leaking.

the greddy header looks like its the same as the H23..until you try to bolt it to the head, the flange and bolt patterns for the 2 heads are different, you cant bolt the greddy to the h23 head, sorry...as for the noise i dunno what to say, havent had any probs with my greddy header..and as for whoever said u dont get any gains from a header...DC is Garbage, plain and simple..but the greddy was a whole different worl, i could noticeably feel a diff between the two, and my 1/4 et dropped almost 3 tenths and my mph went up 2 1/2..so the greddy rocks

If you mean the gasket that goes between the primary and secondary, than get ahold of greddy direct. They will tell you what to do. I always got my spare gaskets from a Greddy dealer.
