adjusting konis at a shop

I got koni yellows, I'm lowered about 1.5" and I want to lower another .5" or so(I'm assuming this is possible w/konis because I wasn't the owner of the car when the konis were installed). What would a shop charge to take them off and adjust them lower. And how far will koni yellows adjust?

do you have any experiance with suspension work? You can do it yourself, it's pretty easy, I could knock it off in about 30 min. Anywho, yes they're adjustable, but howmuch lower depends on where they're set at now. They have about a 1.5~2 inch adjustment range, so it depends.

I adjust mine when I get bored and feel like doing something.

Well I was gonna try myself but I thought something was needed to compress the springs. So hows it done, don't the they have to come off?

Well, what kinda springs do you have, it matters. If you have aftermarket springs, that lower...say more than 1.2 inches, you'll be fine, all you'll need to do, is put pressure on the top of the spring as you're taking off the top nut, so that it doesn't come flying off. A way to test if you'll be able to do it, is take out one of the spring/strut combo's, place is upright on the ground and push down on the top of it, if you can compress it at all, you'll be ok.

The previous owner put the konis on so I really don't know what springs on are there. They are black and maybe stock I think. Well if I need springs to lower it I'll prol just stick w/it how it is.

There is a C-clip on the shock that holds the perch on Konis. They are not too easy to remove if you don't have a C-clip remover. I've taken it off with a pair of pliers. If they are black they are most likely stock. Check if the springs have a quality powder coat to be sure.

I don't have much trouble with my C-clips.. I just use a flathead screwdriver to push one end of the clip, and just hold the other end down and I can get it to open up enough to slide it to the next groove.

taking the stock springs off the stock shocks launched the shock accross the floor. it didnt hit anything, and it was entertainment. the konis with the stock springs were fine. just had to push down on them as prelude styl said. you should be fine.

the rear shock/spring assembly can be a nice nightmare the first time you mess with it, just have some patience. if you like messing with your car, just do it yourself. if you dont have time or just dont care, take it to someone. i dont know how much they would charge, i just know labor costs are too much for me to justify NOT doing somethin myself.

you should try it. its good to get to know your car

Yeah, be careful removing those springs, especially if they're stock. You can be impaled or impale somebody else if you dont take precautions. If you go to an autozone near by you they rent spring compressors. Make sure to use both compressors, one on each side of the spring, when dissasembling the shock.

Yeah, I adjusted the height two notches all the way around, and it was a hell of a time...esp the rear assemblies. It took forever, esp b/c I never have done my own car's suspension before. Civics & Tegs don't take more than an hour, but Ludes, OH MY GOD.

That isn't quite the adjustment range. The front will adjust about 25mm (1inch) and rear will adjust about 15mm (about 2/3 of an inch). But that is in either direction from bottom notch to top notch. The standard setting on the Non-Neuspeed Konis is the center notch up front and top notch in the rear. So really you only have about an extra half inch to lower in the front. not worth it really to mess with setting, unless you are wanting to take it from the most top notch to the lowest on front and rear.

I don't know about that. Anybody who was around here when alex posted the pic of my car at the Bay Area meet about 11 months ago can attest to the fact that the car was a bit high, height-setting-wise. It was one notch from the top, all the way around, and it still had like 3-4 finger gap in the back, and 2+ gap in the front. I lowered it, personally, w/ a friend, one notch from the bottom all around, and it's MUCH lower now (about 1 finger in the front, and 1.5 finger in the back). Maybe it's just b/c my springs are heavily compressed? I don't know...
