Adjustable Springs

Ok, im thinking about my next upgrade is to lower my whip. I already have new struts on. I either need to get some adjustable springs or just plain old lowering springs. The reason i want adjustables is cuz i go to school in a really snowy area and it won't work with a lowered car. So, first questions, give me some feedback on advantages and disadvantages on adjustables and just plain springs.

Second, i had my buddy install my struts for me. I watched a good part of the back-together steps and something i noticed. when he put the back ones on, he had to slide the shock assembly up from the bottom on the car (he had it on a lift like 6 ft in the air). Now, i don't have a hydro lift so if i have to slide them up from the bottom, that won't work with my whip a foot off the ground. Is this the only way.

Third, how tough of a job is this? I know how to use a spring compressor and what not but im worried about the taking apart of the wheel well components and putting them backtogether..he had a bunch of crazy tools to get some of those ball joints apart...any ideas???

feel free to ask more questions if you have them.
as far as adjustable coilovers.... I would suggest you go with Ground Control. I had them and I really liked them. The ride was great and control/stability was amazing.

What type of struts do you have??

i dont get why they call them struts and shocks... whats the dilly with that

There's a difference between a strut and a shock. It's the design. Our cars have shocks, not struts.

well, I don't believe that.

This is what I believe. Maybe someone else can clarify.

"Shocks" are physically separated from the car's springs. A "strut," on the other hand, is a shock absorber with a spring that fits around it and sits on the perch.

i thought it was the other way around...a shock is a spring/strut combination and a strut is just the actual...thats why a strut connects to a strut tower....

thats my assumption.

so i got a print out from the mechanic that said I need new struts/shocks... basically I need new shocks right?

A shock is free from the coil springs. It runs either through the spring without touching it, or it is apart from the springs.

I strut has a little mount on the outside which holds the spring in place. It holds as much of the weight as the spring does.


this is the stock prelude setup.

see how the spring rests in the strut??
