AC Questions!

Hey guys, I'm making the preparations to drop an H22 in my Prelude, and I figured while I'm at it I might as well add the only thing my car is lacking...air conditioning!

My question is...what all exactly will I need to locate, parts wise? Also, are the AC units different from F22 to H22? Are they compatible? Sorry if this is a silly question, this is just one of the only things I've NEVER done to a car lol. Thanks in advance for any input!

Lol ummm no. Not the base models (s). Unless I have had two Prelude S's that have been stripped of their A/C!

you will need the following...

Mechanical Items:
AC compressor (make sure the number of grooves on the pulley matches whetever crank pulley you use)
two high pressure lines from compressor to AC condensor
AC Condensor
hard-line from AC Condensor to AC Drier
AC Drier (must be new)
hard-line from AC Drier to Evaporator
Two low pressure lines from Evaporator back to AC compressor
Rubber gaskets that fit between each connection

I guess that you would need the AC control unit aswell.

I would suggest trying to find prelude in a junkyard that you can get stuff from.
It will be much cheaper that way, and it will also give you an idea how it all fits together. As usual, a Helm's manual would make things much much easier too.

The only part that I would recommend replacing (if you buy used parts) is the expansion valve located within the evaporator. If you put everything together, vacuum the system, and then try and charge it up with refridgerant just to find that the expansion valve is bad, you have just wasted time and money because you have to evacuate the system just to change the valve.

Also, try and find the high and low pressure lines from a 93 or new model because then you won't have to retrofit them for r134.

Most honda AC systems are very similar so if you search for other AC system writups on other hondas, they should be very similar.
