AC problems

My 93 SI, doesnt blow cold air. Its been like that since i got it about two months ago. It uses r12, i will get the refrigerant recharged but how can i tell if its the compressor that is not working? I know their is a dye u can get at autoparts stores that shows where their are leaks but how can u tell if it is the compressor that is not working?

when u turn on the a/c, u should be able to hear the compressor clutch engaging and disengaging if u listen in the engine bay. Your car's RPMs might drop a bit when this happens, so u'll notice your idle a bit off for a second or two

Have you checked this thread? I had the same problem, it wasn't blowing cold air, turned out to be some faulty grounds, had them install a new switch as the control box was broken, cost me $300 for parts ($30) and labor($270).

AC problem...almost solved

One thing i found out 2 days after buying my 93 prelude si is that there is no mistaking when your compressor fails. I was driving down the highway, came to a stoplight, when the light turned green i went to hit the gas and... nothing. The car would crank for a second then turn right back off. Luckily i had a 30 day warranty and the dealership towed the car back in for repairs. Turned out the AC compressor had failed, locking up the drivebelt... point is, you'll know one way or another if the compressor is the problem.

thats not necessarily true. your compressor will not always lock up. The one on my old car would simply stop working, but the car would drive perfectly fine.

if any of you guys need a new (used) compressor, hit me up...i have an extra 134a that will fit an h22 as it is or will fit an h23 if you change the pulley.

3 cans is too much. i put 1 1/2 cans cuz the capacity is about 22 ounces. You should take some out. My dad put 3 cans in my mom's Maxima. The compressor got noisy and a hose busted a week later. Not only could you bust a hose, you could mess up your compressor ($$$)

How bad is your leak?
