AC problem- compressor

So one day my AC was working awesome. Next day it stops blowing cold air. I went to the mechanic. He fills me up with coolant, AC quickly starts blowing cold again. Soon as we turned off the car, we heard a hissing noise and the coolant was leaking out from the bottom of the compressor. Is this something that can maybe be fixed? Any hoses under there? I didnt get to look under there but the mechanic claims the hoses run on top so I'm going to need a new compressor. The compressor was replaced just 4 years ago cause it died, not another one! $615 w/ parts + labor. I think it's time to sell the lude and get an RSX-S. No AC + black interior and 50% tint in south Texas = hell.

any reputable mechanic would've done a leak test, they put this dye type stuff in there that turns bright orange if if is exposed to air, makes finding leaks incredibly easy.

Well we know the leak is coming from the bottom of the compressor. It definitely wasnt a slow leak, but not too fast. He had some device with a sensor on it that I guess would detect the free-on stuff. It would start beeping really fast when he got close to the liquid.
