anyone know which wire from the dizzy is the one that goes to the tach? i searched for a bit and couldnt find anything. the reason being is that my stock tach does not read accurate and when i asked around someone told me there could be a wire that might be messed up so might've well just get the readings straight from the dizzy. thanks

What exactly is your tech doing? Just not reading correct (ex: 1000 rpm above actual rpm) or is it just jumping around? Is the tech always on 0rpm when the key is on the ON position but when engine is not started?

once in a blue the tach is not on 0 when its not on, and sometimes it goes over and under by 250rpm or 500rpm's while driving, like lets say i should be on 3k at 5th gear doing 60, istead i would be at 5800rpms, not accurate like it used to be.
now i hooked the new stri tach to the wire from the back of the cluster and it just goes crazy after 4k rpm on first, then it goes crazy all along as i go tru gears. when i go steady however it works, only under steady throttle.
when i wired it to the blue wire on the engine bay, same thing happens...

That would be my guess too. I was asking becasue I had simular problem, but it seems that yours is a little different.

As I would drive it would show 500rpm over, (the actual rpm of the engine did not change) then for no reason it would jump to like 6000rpm, stay there for a while the jump back down.

One day I had had enough of it and decided to by an entire cluster of ebay. I swaped them and the rpms were normal, but the speedometer was not showing the right speed (tested vtec engagement and rev limiter for speed acuracy). So I took both clusters apart and just swaped the circuit board for the tech of the one from ebay to my original cluster. I have been driving over a year like this now and have not had any problems (knock on wood).
You can try swaping clusters with someone else just so at least you can cross this scenario off. Although it seems the cause to your problem might be different than it was with mine. It wouldn't hurt to check the ignitor as it was suggested by jsmooney.

Note: Before I bought the cluster of ebay I checked my actual rpm with a timing light at idle, the rpms looked OK on the light (in the 700 range) while on my cluster it was reading in the 1500 range.
