About to buy...need help

I currently have a 93 S Model, but i'm leaving it in Alabama because I recently joined the Army and i'm being stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington. Well i've been checkin' autotrader and i found a 95 VTEC for a little under 6 grand. I think that's an awesome price, it's got 120,000 miles on it. Claims say that the body is in excellent condition. I'll be there on friday and i'm going to look @ it on saturday. Tell me what you guys think about that.

Sounds a bit steep. Looking on KBB.com, a 95 VTEC with 120k miles in good condition is worth $2,645 and $3,050 for excellent condition. This isn't very suprising given 4th gen VTEC's are somewhat rare and notoriously overpriced. The '95 model is the best out of the 4th gen VTEC's to go with IMO due to OBD1 still being used.

Anyhow, if you can talk them down on the price and want to go for it, here is a checklist to printout and use specifically for preludes. It's pretty extensive.

Good luck.

3 grand is ridiculously low in terms of real market value. I paid $3800 for my 94 Si this year. You must be looking at the trade-in value. The private party value is more like $5780 (in the Bay Area anyway). I think 6 grand is worth it if you really want a VTEC lude and it doesn't need a lot of repairs.

I've had offers on my not perfect 95 SI for close to 3,500. I would probably be willing to pay about $4,500-5,500 for that car IF the entire car was flawless. No rips, no dents, no RUST, and no previous record of accident etc. Must have been a non smoker too.

If you decide to buy it, just offer them less.. Have cash in hand because money talks.

Good luck.

I've gotten an offer of $2500 on my 92 with 180k. The mailman comes everyday and talk to me about selling it, he'd sure love himself a Prelude. I think one day I'm gonna crack and give it to him for that price.
