Hi everyone, first time coming here been google searching for about a week and this site seems to have more of the answers im looking for.
Was driving back from Orlando last week, got into town when i noticed my car started to make a weird vibration at low RPM. As im driving down the road 2 blocks from my apartment i hear a loud clang and noticed my battery charging light came on. Since i was so close to the apartment i decided rather than stop to get it home before it cuts off. I turned into the apartment and the engine choked and died and wouldn't come back on so i had to push it the rest of the way. BTW i have a battery less than a year old and the lights and everything still work fine in the car
Well i parked it and looked under the hood. The Power Steering/AC/Alternator Belt popped off and on the bottom part the pulley is just dangling on there (literally) leaning against the plastic wheel wall, its a clear inch away from the engine when it used to sit really close.
I know i need a new balancer, what else do i need to get (google says a key?). Also as i said the car wouldn't turn over...is this the engine safety mechanism or have i thrown the timing on the car? If so how can i check if something more serious is damaged? Lastly what is the going price for a Harmonic Balancer Replacement, what price range should i be looking at?
Well, since the belt popped off, the alternator wouldn't be working which means that its not going to recharge the battery plus it won't be able to provide a strong enough spark to ignite the fuel. I dont know what it has to do with the balancer, but the balancer belts are behind the plastic cover.
What you need to do, from what it sounds like, is reconnect the belt and make sure its tight (but not too tight). Plus your battery might need a jump/recharge. And because the alternator belt was disconnect (which means it will not be working) that is the reason why your car had that vibration - spark got weaker and weaker. Charge your battery and reconnect the alternator.
sounds to me like you engine crank pully came loose and that is what made the belts pop loose and the loud clang could have been the bolt flying off... check that this has happened to me once before. the bolt needs to be tightened to around 900lbs of tourk with locktite!!!
Took it to the shop, and when repairing they told me the timing was off, so they redid it and all for 300 bucks (other shops were quoting double that)
Car wouldn't fire, so they checked the compression and only 1 out of the 4 cylinders were firing. They hit me with a 1200 dollar quote which I don't have so its gonna get towed home. What should I do? What are the prices for a new engine? What would be the better choice? Rebuild this or get a new engine?

Is that quote, perhaps, for rebuilding the top end? Meaning the valves? I had a friend charged about that much just for putting in new valves, but he also got a water pump/timing/belt change. If so, it's going to be cheaper to just fix the valves.
Can ya give any more details? Sorry I don't have much knowledge just tryin' to throw some thoughts your direction :/
if you jumped the timming you may have to have the head rebuilt or have to by a new one depending on the damaged to the head if any
Ya you most likely bent some valves. Have them take the head off and see how much damage you've actually done. I'm still thinking that quote they gave you was for rebuilding.
Make sure the shop at least knows how/wants to work on a Honda. For some reason, no shops around my area wants to or even knows how to, I have to take my car to friends for any extra help.
I believe the quoted price was for rebuilding. I believe getting a new engine falls somewhere between 2000 and 3000 dollars. As for the new harmonic balancer, had someone do a DIY replacement and it only costed me 48 dollars.
Why don't you desperate posters follow up and give the conclusions to your dilemmas? I got a whole H22A for $1300 complete. Then I installed it with some help. Beats an F22 any day.
