94 Si Starts Fine, Then Dies Promptly

An Ignition Story...

I get in, sit down, and insert the almighty "honda" key into the ignition and like anyone would normally do to start their standard equipped prelude vehicle I press the clutch and turn to the start position until i hear a "roar" from the tail-pipe. While the key is at the "on" position (before) I start my vehicle all accessory lights and electrical components stay on as normal. The problem I face currently is that instantly when I let the key bounce back from the "START" position to the on position, she dies instantly along with all the accessory components.

To get accessory items to come back on, i.e. dash lights and that sort of thing, I have to turn the key to the "off" position and back to the "on" position.

A random precursor to this was whilst I was driving, my speedo was dropping to 0 and back up to my current speed along with sudden flashing of all my accessory lights. I'm thinking that there is a loose connection in the ignition switch, but I wanted to know if anyone could give me a heads up.

I've already checked:
  • Battery Cables/Terminals/Posts
  • All Fuses under driver side kickpanel and under hood
  • Checked for loose wires to ignition switch

If I should provide any more information, just let me know. Thanks guys.

I had this problem last year. It's your ignition switch. The piece inside the ignition key cylinder that has the actual electrical contacts. Over time the contacts get worn down further and further with the hundreds and thousands of key turns over the years.

It's not an expensive fix.
