'94 Automatic Weirdness

Hi
The automatic transmission in my JDM Prelude Si VTEC (yep, the auto tranny was an option in Japan on the VTEC) has started to act strangely.

On a 'hot restart' it upshifts late (3000rpm with very little throttle pressure) . When it gets to 3rd it seems VERY reluctant to go into 4th gear - it's common to be driving along at 4500rpm going "hmm... come on.. you know you want to shift!".
I've found that coming to a complete stop and setting off again will often cure it.

Everything is absolutely perfect when the tranny is cold.

Any suggestions?

Is it low on fluid?
When was the last fluid flush and fill?

Remove the lower cover and check/replace the filter.

Yep I know, I know... my daily car is a 5sp (a beaten up Eunos Roadster - Japanese market Miata).
I don't mind driving autos though, especially when queuing in uphill traffic!

The 5sp tranny swap had crossed my mind but I don't think they're common in this part of the world. Generally garages would say "erm..sell it and buy a manual". They have a point probably

Tranny fluid looks cherry red in colour and seems high enough up the dipstick...will get it changed anyway as it will be almost a year old.
