94-96 foglight switch on 93?

My fogs came in today, excited as all hell to get these things on my car, but....

The switch is from a 94-96:

In go pre's post, he mentions a way of using a floppy drive plug to go into the socket. I got one from an old computer I have lying around, but I don't see how this plug could fit in the switch; the pins on the switch are flat, while the inputs on the floppy drive plug are much smaller. What am I missing?

Also, I didn't get a subharness or relay. What kind of relay does this use? I'm assuming a 15-amp relay? 5 pins (two for coil, two for switch, one ground)?

Actually, comparing this switch to prelude2005's, they don't match! What kind of switch do I have here?

The switch doesn't match either the 94-96 or the 92-93... but it fits in the center console of my 93 perfectly...

How can I tell which wires I would need to hook this up?

You got a JDM fog switch. I got one with my JDMs too. You can get a pigtail off a 5th gen Accord rear window defroster from a junkyear and "click" fits right in.

I think I saw your car at school a few weeks ago. It was on a Thursday over by HSSB around 11ish. Maybe it wasn't but it was a 92 or 93 silver prelude.

Zimmlude: Ah, that makes sense; he told me they were ordered from Japan... I figured the switches were the same... So if I get the harness from the defroster switch off that Accord, it'll fit? Which wires would I splice into the harness on my car? Thanks for your help!

brendon2k: Nope, mine's Blue/Green. I typically park it by HSSB, though. I'm actually not at school much, but I will be for finals (ugh)...

yeah that is definitely not the usdm switch.. ours only has 4 pins. I'm not sure how you would wire it with that switch, but maybe someone who has the jdm fogs can tell you.

Well I don't exactly remember the pinouts. I do know that it is backlit unlike the USDM one. Best advise is to use a multimeter and a 12V source and see what goes where.

The pins should be something like this:

1 pin for backlight (connect to a source that goes hot with parking lights)
1 pin for on indicator (best to wire with switched leads somehow)
2-pins for switch contacts (I am not sure how USDM switch works)
1 pin for a common ground for the two lights

The harness from the Accord plugs right in (it's lucky my mom used to drive a '96 Accord or I would have never found it)

Sorry I couldn't be more help. I actually have a '95 so I just got a USDM switch for the center console and used the JDM switch to turn on/off the inside lights on my JDM headlights.

Thank you for all the help so far. How do you guys know so much of this stuff?

I went to the junkyard; they didn't have 5th gen Accords, as I expected. But one had a 96 Prelude in it. It also had a 91 Accord.

From the Accord, I found a connector that fits the fog light switch perfectly:

It has 6 wires, just like the connector on the connector on my 93 Prelude; coincedence? Can I wire it?

Also, I found a relay on the Prelude:

This relay didn't have the subharness connected to it; oddly enough, it was just the set of wire (which was taped with blue tape, just like in mine), which was then connected to the relay. There was no subharness involved; will this work? Also, don't I need to ground this relay somehow?

This relay is identical to the one in prelude2005's picture, except his says "536" on the bottom, whereas this one says "594." Also, mine doesn't have that metal tab on the back.

Tell me all what you think. It may be that the 91 Accord's connectors may also work. Or maybe I should just try and buy a switch for my actual year...

Thanks again!

of course it is. i mean, they had to keep the jdm one better somehow, right? I always wondered why ours isn't backlit, even the hazard switch right next to it is.

So, if it's backlit, but the USDM switch wasn't, then I shouldn't expect this switch to light up, right? The wiring probably isn't set up for that...

I'm sure you can figure out how to wire up the backlight.. and you might as well, the switch is hard to find in the dark without it.

How do I determine which wire matches the connector's wires? In your setup, go pre, how did you figure out which wires to use on the floppy plug and the connector?

I disassembled the switch and looked at the circuit board. once you have the circuit board out you can figure out which pins go to the bulb and which are for the switch.
