93si4ws: got a question for ya...

i was looking at your setup on hp.com and saw that you have 4ws with 93 jdm h22...you are opting to use the 94 usdm ecu...why not go for the jdm ecu and be able to use the 4ws?

From what i believe you have...your 4ws is inoperable since there where no 4ws vtec cars in US...am i right or wrong?

The 4WS is completely independent of the ECU. The 4WS has it's own control unit. The JDM ECU also has a speed limiter, I forget what speed it is, but it's no where near the top speed the car can handle.

4WS was available in the United States from 88-94 (not too sure about the third gen years). 4th gen prelude came as a Si model only (non-vtec) during the three years. The 4WS ECU is completely independent from the main ECU. It resides in your trunk.

great to have all this knowledge now. i did the swap in late '99. not too many people could advise me on the vtec/4ws bit, nothing special about it, really. but way back when it felt like a real accomplishment. nowadays everyone and they mommas mommas cousin had done the switch...like our good friend z over there. always one step behind me. don't worry, you'll have your time, z. heh j/k

I'm making it, bro. How bout you? Seems like you got the car in order.

I already feel old as it is. I was telling some 18 year old girl at work about "back in the day" I used to do this and that, and it hit me that I am past my prime.

Girl was bangin' though

thanks for all the input...

I do have the 4WS and know about the control in the truck...i never checked out the wiring schem in my manual to figure if the ECU controled it...i just figured it did....that is a good relief though because im probably going to do the H22 swap and I was worried about the JDM ECU w/ 4WS...

thanks again...
