93 Honda prelude turns off and start a few tries later

I've got a 93 prelude SI (H23) Auto 194K
(timing belt/water pump replaced @ 160K)

One day i was driving it about 70mph and it just turned off. no warning to studder.

After a few tries it restarted, ran and sounded fine. Drove 1/4 mile same thing. After a few more tries it restarted, ran and sound fine. Drove 1/4 mile, OFF again.

This time it took alot longer to start finally got it started ran for a few seconds backfired and turn off.

Tried to restart it, no start. (the engine turned like the timing belt was broken, faster than normal)

8 hours later we pick it up, started drove in onto the trailer and it shut off.

NOW, three day prior to this i had someone replace the thermostat. Don't know if it has any coincident or not.

thank you for any help

Sounds like a problem to the main relay to me, the one that controls your fuel pump. If the problem comes back, check that one first. Sometimes cracked solder rings occur. (Main relay is located under the dashboard near the steering wheel)

it was the igniter in the distributor. 230.00 for that part but i bought a remain distributor from pep boys for 137.00 which inlcuded the igniter assembly.

Should also check the ignition switch in the steering column. The contacts burnout over time and can cause random shut-offs, and then simply not allow the engine to stay running when it is fully gone.
