92 h23a1 Intake Manifold Question

So, my 92 Prelude SI has given me nothing but trouble for the past couple of months.

My intake gasket went bad (surging idle = VERY ANNOYING), but I have fixed that.

My car takes a very long time to get to normal operating temperature, and when I give it some gas, or am cruising on the highway my temp drops a bar)

Car is very boggy (especially around 2500-4000)

And last but not least I have a cel code 12. Vacuum tested my egr valve which is good, and my control solenoid and vacuum are good. (Which makes me believe my ports are clogged)

Mods: Intake, High-flow cat, Cat-back exhaust, Fuel Rail, FPR

Which brings me to my question!

My intake manifold's EGR PORTS are totally welded over and impossible to even see plugs!

So, should I go ahead and get a re-machined aftermarket intake?
Or just try and find another way around the ports,
OR do the egr block plate?

I would LOVE to not have to spend TOO much money, but me CEL has been
on for waaaay too long and I am ready for my car to run well!

I have that website already saved on my favorites. Thats what I was asking. Should I buy one of those? Will it increase my hp or anything? And fix my bogging problem?

have you upgraded your header too?
well, with some (better than oem) header and that IM you should get some power. they support those mods what you already have. dont know much about non vtec h23, but dont expect huge gains.

if you have the money Id say that get that IM + header (if you have still the stock one) and THEN adjustable cam gears -> go to dyno and tune whole thing (if you dont have ecu which can be tuned, get one too)

without tuning your upgrade mods just mess up your engine & ecu and whole car go crazy. but with ecu tuning those could free up couple horses
but then again those costs money and you dont want to spend much... cant you just go and get "new" stock IM (from ebay or scrap yards)?

since modding and upgrading these cars IS EXPENSIVE. you cannot get much power with small amounts of money

If your car runs colder than it should then the thermostat is more than likely stuck open, the helms manual goes over the EGR port clean as that is definitely your problem. There are also write ups on a lot of Honda websites.

I appreciate the input guys, I found my problem with the temperature. (The thermostat's gasket was torn to shreds, and I had a small crack in the bypass hose from the thermostat housing!)

Now as for the intake manifold. I thought about it and I think I want to go with the blacktrax im because I will KNOW that it will be clean and new and not have to go through this again. Saying that, what specs do yall think would be good for the intake? I know you can choose the size up to 68mm. I will go with the stage 3.
Maybe it will be a christmas gift to myself!

Since I have a catback megan exhaust I figure I will just get the megan headers as well to complete the system.

And I do not have a chipped ecu, anybody know where I could get one for a good price?

well, it really doesnt matter what size you choose, if youre running it with stock throttle body. so if youre planning to get better throttle body choose IM opening size to match that (like my Skunk2 IM have 66mm so I ordered 66mm throttle body that I dont need to port match them together)

Blox racing and Skunk2 make throttle bodies if youre intrested about them

edit. remember to ask/buy hondata IM heat shield gasket from them also!

and those adjustable cam gears might help a bit, even with stock cams

I wouldn't spend a bunch of money on an H33a1 unless it was being boosted, I can tell you from having a standard Si that the H22 in terms of an N/A motor is superior in every way and I'm glad I didn't waste money on the H23a1. That 0.1 extra displacement isn't even noticeable either. Think about it before you dump a bunch of money into it, you can clean the ports even if they're welded over.
