92-93 Center Console to 94-96 Conversion.. Anyone do this?
I'm thinking of getting a center console from a 96 but i know I'll have to move the brake handle bolts and the cables for that. Has anyone done this change and what should I know before I buy the stuff from this guy? What are all of the things I need to look for? Any help would be appreciated.
Hey OutlawLude just converted his center console from a 96 to I believe a 93. He had to move all the bolts because the brake handle on the consoles are totally different. On the 96 the brake handle is on the left side next to the driver. On the 93 the handle is on the right because of the arm rest. I'm not totally positive on this but I think I am about 75% right about it. Private message him or email him and he would be able to tell you if I'm right or not.

First off I'm sure theres 2 types of consoles in 92-93. Theres the one with the ebrake in the center and the consol goes all the way to the rear of the car and its a compartment in the back. There other one also has the ebrake in the center, yet there is no compartment in the back. It ends at the back of the front seats. If you look next to the ebrake there are some tabs that look like the are ment to be removed for some buttons or switches.
Here are some pictures..(sorry so big)
All I know is that you'll have to move the ebrake. To make everything work correctly you'll also need to move your side mirrior adjustments to the center consol too. So you'll also have the one on the drivers side door, its up to you what you want to do with that. The pictures should show you what you need.

David
i'm currently working on this swap and I plan to post a how-to when I finish... look for it in the next couple of weeks.
thought I'd clarify a little:
Long, lockable console. Found only in 92-93 cars as a $200 delaer option. Fairly rare.
Standard 92-93 console:
94+ console (only one made). Also shows VTEC 6x9 grill: [/B][/QUOTE]
There is also a JDM console/armrest similar to the standard 92-93 that has a consoel.
I have my console switched to the 92-93 version with the huge storage dompartment. The only thing that I still need to do is to reweld the E-brake handle since the floorboard doesn't have the bolt holes to convert the e-brake over. Other than that though, the console is in!!

I thought the first one was standard on all 92 and the second one on all 93 and that there was no console options... Also I've always been wondering where do you put the OEM fog light switch on the 92 with the lockable console? there's no place to put switches anywhere in the car
oh and btw I use that little square thing (#14 on the first picture) as a cup holder, works well but don't accelerate, turn or brake too fast. I had the habit of braking hard when I arrived at work and once my coffee just flew over me and falled on the floor on my side, that made a big mess...
Forbidden, the fog light switch as far as i know goes in the speaker cover on the drivers side for 92-93 with the lockable console, the ebrake placement is nice, but the compartment in the back is a pain, nobody can really sit back there unless they are a midget

The tweeter cover has the switch built into it. Someone on here just ordered the switch from a dealer and cut a hole in his tweeter cover. The switch looks a little different. . .it kinda slides back and forth I think.

Hey, I may have one at home (the 92-93 style). I'm at school right now, so I cant be sure (I upgraded to the 94 style, cant remember if I kept the old ones). I should be able to look sometime in the next few days. I did have holes cut for my tweeters though.
Originally posted by Forbidden Is there 2 switch in there? so you could put another switch for something else right? though it looks kinda weird...
The blank space next to the switch can not be replaced, unless you do some engineering I guess. & it does look weird because it has no purpose but to take up space.

I don't know what the font is, it came like that. It's an original JDM option.
hmm.. is there a way to remove that brake light cover so I could stick something like that on the window... I don't want to do that exactly but something similar. Also what's that little thing over the brake light?

Yea, just take off the plastic cover, then there are two bolts you have to remove. That's it! The 'little thing' is a water nozzle, that's not my Prelude...I wish it was though!
