The $600 project

It cranks but doesn't start. The guy I bought it from replaced the coil wires and plugs after it just wouldn't start one day. I pulled the distributer and the rotor looks like it saw action in a war(it actually has groves in the rotor where its was striking the cap.I ordered an msd replacement cap an rotor rather than get screwed at the local parts house.
Question:The timing belt has about a half inch play up and down between the two cam sprockets is this normal on an H23?

The Rotors seem to do that, heard of this multiple times and experienced it myself... Was the screw that holds the Rotor on the Shaft still there? Was it still attached?

Not sure on the Belt..

Well,I was actually forcing my brother to do all the work because I broke my ankle.I actually used the crutch as a hood prop. The previous owner killed the battery trying to start it so I couldn't spin the motor around to see if the screw was still there. The rotor was hanging on to something pretty good though. After taking the battery to get a charge my brother blew the 100A fuse(hooking up the battery wrong. I could be upset but Im just thankful that Im not having to buy a computer.

The interior is immaculate. It looks like it was owned by a 80lb woman who had an obsessive compulsive disorder to keep her car clean. As for the H22....I have a harley and a b16a crx for speed. So I think Im just going to cruse this red demon. I think I may be kidding myself with that one. Is just that its so virgin, it doesn't even have a cold air intake or a fartcan. The car has 190k on the dial so as soon as it pops the 22 will be going in.

nice - post pics of the interior.

I need to snap some pics of my project.....gotta pull the h23a1 today after work then get a timing belt, balance shaft belt, and water pump for the h22....then that baby will go in. after it gets running, im off to the body shop (aka my garage, same as the engine builder) to make it look nice and then spray it with NH-0 aka Championship White then the 5 lug conversion.....and the list goes on
