I'm not sure about that swap ... should work. But I DO know that the JDM ITR boot & knob swap looks NICE ....

You could find them at:

www.jdmhondaparts.com
www.randdmotorsports.com

Just look for the JDM OEM Type R (ITR) shift boot (black w/ red stitching) and the shift knob. I'm warning you, though, that knob is not cheap (160 bucks, roughly). Yes, everybody will laugh at me for paying that much for a knob, but hey, I have my goals and standards.

I don't know how you would get the boot to fit without stapling it into the 4th-gen boot frame, but I suppose it can be done. The 5th-gen boot frame will NOT fit the 4th-gen console. Here's a pic of my interior, with a 5th-gen JDM Type-S shift knob. Only difference? The red stitching. Keep in mind, the 5th-gen shift knob is much taller than the stock 4th-gen knob, and in my mind, it would be way too uncomfortable. I had about 1" of metal cut from the shifter stock.

NO 5th gen interior parts, not even JDM, appealed to me, that's why I went to the good ol' JDM ITR for guidance. It just made sense to go to the JDM ITR knob, b/c it screwed right on, and looks VERY clean, esp w/ carbon fiber dash kits. For the JDM ITR boot, I took the ITR console plate off of the boot, and took the staples out of my stock 96 Si boot assembly, and squeezed the boot between the inner shift console plate and the outer plate, and voila! It's a great, clean fit that looks like it belongs in the Lude. Our ITR bretheren really have some great things going for them ... then again, they paid 25G's for a Teg, haha.

I drove my car to the shop I do most of my work withm, removed the shifter (kind of a pain to remove the cable clips for the first time) and let the guys cut about an inch out of the stalk, then weld the threaded portion back on. This has been one of the best free mods I have ever done. I love the 5th-gen Type-S shift knob--it looks awesome and allows me to grip the shifter vertically, which keeps me from missing third.

I'm feeling the way your interior is looking, i'm about to get them to chop mine off a bit for me. Alright thanks for the info.

It's a 4th-gen boot with a 5th-gen trim ring at the top to match the round shift knob.

I bought the 5th-gen Type-S shift knob, which comes with a new boot and trim ring as well as the knob. I simply removed the trim ring from the 5th-gen boot and put it on the end of the 4th-gen boot.

Good luck!
