5th gen JDM fogs switch work is 4th gen

Hey guys,

I just got an e-bay item I ordered and thought I would share my knowledge. As you may or may not know, 5th gen luders can't use the JDM fog switch as it doesn't fit anywhere in their console. Well guess what, they fit in ours!! They fit in the little thing next to the steering wheel that has the roof, cruise, and dimmer switches. I just replaced the cruise swicth that I don't use with this. If you get the interior wiring harness (like I did) you can run that too and you will have a backlit fogs switch in front of you instead of an unlit one in the center console. If you don't have the harness you wil need to run your own wires but you can still make it backlit and work. I am sorry but I don't have any digi pics of it but I will have it functional by this weekend

Just thought you all might like to know.

Later

can you tell me exactly what wires go to which? I am stuck on the damn switch and can't get my fogs to turn on.

4G switch = red/yel, orange, red/grn, black, red/blu, red/black

5G switch = Black, Red/yellow, red/black, red,black, black

Hello,

Well I looked over the wiring diagrams in the FAQ and I had a similar problem with another member here, Fgarcia. The bottom line is, I can make the switches backlight work and make it work the fogs. The indicator light is not going to work. Here is how to connect it:

Hold the harness so that the color order goes like this:
Blk1, Red/Blk1, Red/Blk2, Red/Yel, Blk2

JDM switch USDM Harness
BLK1 to nothing
Red/Blk1 to Org
Red/Blk2 to Red
Red/Yel to Red/Yel
Blk2 to Red/Blk

In order to make the indicator work you will need to do some heavy wiring at the relay location. I can tell you how to do this but I don't have time right now.

Hit me up at jwzimm@u.washington.edu and I will try and e-mail you the way when I get a chance.

HTH,

HTH,

That is awesome. I don't care about the indicator light personally. It is orange so I'm not to worried about it.

I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks Jason

Are you sure the indicator is orange. Mine was green but the backlight is orange. I pulled the backlight bulb out of my cruise switch and put it in the orange ones place.

Good luck

well something else is wrong. They aren't turning on. I hooked the switch up to a battery and the backlight was orange. I swapped it. I don't care about the indicator just yet. I just want to make sure everything is working.

Possibly a fuse? Your switch terminals in the JDM switch are the Red/Blk2 and the Red/Yel. They should show continuity when the switch is pressed. to make sure it isn't the switch, try this:

Turn on the heads (the fogs won't come on unless they are on low)
Connect a good ground to the USDM harness Red/yel wire and the fogs should come on. If they don't then it is not the switch.

I have to leave for work so I won't be able to get back to you right away.

HTH

alright. Looking at the diagram I can see where the dimmer relay will cause the fogs not to work. Can you tell me where it is and how to replace it?

Hey Clifford,

Try looking in the FAQ manual under electrical components locator. It is somewhere in there.

Good luck, and double check ALL your fuses, I really think it is one of them.

Later,

Later,

found the relay. I checked all the fuses with a fuse tester and everything was working properly.

My dash lights don't dim at all. I'm sure it is the dimmer relay. Oreilly's said they would have one for me in the morning. That better be it cause this is getting pathetic.

Just be careful next time with the wiring. If you ground the wrong wire you can really toast something.

Did grounding the red/yel wire get the fogs to come on?

The way I have mine set up is I got the JDM harness with it and it just plugged right up. I removed the cruise control button as I never use it and it looks bone stock now.

Good luck,

I haven't tried it yet. I didn't think it would work if the dimmer relay wouldn't complete the circuit.
