5th gen glass moonroof install (w/ pics)

I got my 5th gen glass roof panel today and decided to take advantage of the sunny weather and work on the installation.

What people have been saying is correct: the size/shape/curvature is almost a perfect fit. However, I have run into some installation issues. . .

1: I removed the bumpstops on the front on the 5g panel, since they dont exist on the 4g panel.
2: The mounting studs on the 5th gen panel do not line up exactly with the 4th gen sliding brackets. It's close, and could probably be worked around by drilling out the bracket holes, but I'm hesitant to do so untill I get #3 figured out.
3: I realized that once the panel is installed, all the mounting hardwear and sliding brackets will be visable. With the 4g panel in place, these parts are hidden beneath the small headliner-type material affixed to the panel. With now such "mini-headliner" once the glass installed, the brackets (with enlarged holes) and bolts will ALWAYS be visable.

Sooooo, the guy from honda-tech said I should just lop off four of the 8 mounting studs to solve the stud/bracket interface problem. He hasnt gotten back to me about the lack of a means to conceal everything though

Alright, spent a little more time trying to get the glass mounted today. . .

After removing 4 of the 8 mounting studs, the glass DOES pretty much drop right into place:

As expected, the glass is slightly elevated (especailly at the front edge). Apparently, you can shim the entire assembly downwards, but I didn't have time to remove the headliners and give that a try. Part of the problem is probably because I didnt grind the removed studs completley flush yet:

I would say the seal/fit around the perimeter is "decent", although it might get better once the panel is shimmed downwards. I think I might drill out the holes which the studs go through to get a little bit of adjustability:

As for the interior, I still havent figured out a way to conceal everything and make it look nice. I guess it dosnt look horrible as is, but just kinda "unfinished":

I think I'm going to put the stock pianel back in again, untill I have some more time to get these fitment issues sorted out

Nice one Tim,

I'm off to a breaker yard to have a look at a 5G I've found.

I'm going to have a look at the whole roof lining, inc the interior, motors etc - I'm wondering if the whole lot will bolt up into the 4G - that way I'd get the sliding panel too

I know I've got at least 1 of them!

It's funny but that sunroof glass has been all over North America! From Texas to Canada and now back down south.

It's looking good.

Keeping it in case I ever want to return to stock. I traded my "spare" metal one for bdb's glass one.

The glass one is substantially heavier, probably 3-4x the weight of the metal panel

why dont you put on the stock trim piece that goes inside around therE? it might conceal them bolts a lot better (you know the onet hat goes inside the car against the roof that hides that nasty edge?

then take a photo .. otherwise nice work . .get that flush and give a write up .

then its time for somebody to figure some type of slide back cover ... maybe that'll require a mod to the light fixture right behind it too .. hmm...

but i have faith in you red92s!!
