In 5th gear at 3000 RPMS I am going 60 MPH...

Is this normal? What speed do you go in 5th at 3000 rpms?

I have a 96 SI

I would say it's normal. On freeway on-ramps, I would shift to 5th around 3.5K rpm @ 50 or 60 mph, but around 3K or 3.5K rpm @ 45 or 50 mph on surface streets.

Why a 6 speed, what are you trying to resolve. You think 3k rpms is too much? You think Honda missed the boat?

If you want lower rpms, get a V8 but all 4 banger motors turn high rpms and for me I like that.

yes that's correct. we have shorter gearings, so our rpms are higher than the average car. at 65mph, i'm around 3.5k

I think a sixth gear would be nice for cruising at around 80 mph, it just helps to reduce the drone that you get from the engine at those speeds. In a friends Seat Leon, the sixth gear puts the revs down to around 3200 at 80 mph and it seems so much more relaxed. It doesn't take anything away from the performance in the lower gears, just makes for a more comfortable drive when you want to travel some distance.

What do you mean why a 6 speed, vtecspd? An RSX-S has a 6 speed tranny....it's to save gas and engine wear when cruising.

I wouldn't mind a long 5th gear either. You usually don't need 5th when going fast anyway. If you do, hopefully you're on a track and not the street.

i want a 6th gear b/c i drive from KC to lawrence and i cruise about 85 mph for 30 min. thats hard on the engine 30 min at 4500 or so. I would just like an extra gear for crusing. So back to my question...would any 6spd tranny bolt up to the H22a1?

never heard of one doing so

but a 6th gear would be reaaaaaally nice. one day i made a run up to the next county (about 30 miles away) and I was cruising at a constant 90 - 100 mph @ 4500 - 5000k. i felt bad for my car after i got home

mmm, a really long 6th gear and slightly shorter lower gears

I kinda wanted to keep this a secret, but what the heck, I have other secrets that I will reveal to you guys when I'm done with my engine set-up. You guys are over looking something, the Prelude S. Yes the slowest 4th Gen Prelude, which I own one. In 5th gear at 3.3K RPM I cruise at 80 MPH, yes 80 MPH. That is why I am keeping this tranny and mate it with my H23/H22 hybrid, a true hybrid, H22 head, H23 block and F22 tranny. I am now saving for the JE Pistons, Crower Rods and Ferrea Valve Terrain. Well then there you go, hope this helped you guys.

Oh, and by the way, I talked to my friend who owns a 95 Supra Twin Turbo, he said that his car goes 80 MPH at around 3K RPM as well, so maybe I'll be able to keep up with him one's I finished my engine build up and turbo!!?

actually. I think i read somewhere about the hybrid tranny.

1st - 3rd = H22A tranny
4th = H23 tranny
5th = F22 tranny

This guy got skill. Too bad I can't find the article now.

But, yeah.. that will be awesome.

You mean installing H23 and F22 gears in your H22 transmission? Yeah, lots of work. And I don't think you can just put one in there without modding anything.

^ I agree we really need a 6-spd for highway cruising.

btw, would the f22 tranny hurt our h22 performance in the lower gears alot?

i wonder if honda would know if a there is a 6psd tranny that would bolt up and not loose performance. Though i HATE dealerships. there has to be something that bolts up. i would think that the f22 tranny would hurt out low end enough. anyone have any info on F22 tranny with H22 motor?

no its not normal, you somehow got a tranny with way different gear ratios then everyone else. you know how easy it is for a manufacturing defect to change the number of teeth on the gears.

^^ No, that's normal Padge...My 93 Auto Si cruised at 3000 at 60 mph.

brendon, I'm pretty sure that they make sure the gears are in spec before installing them.
