Which 5sp to swap to (from my AT)

Ive got a 92 Si AT (H23)

I've been combing the threads and it seems like a lot of us AT owners contemplate the swap for 5sp.

So far it looks like getting an F22 is a bad idea, even though they seem easy to find, and are cheap.

I would want the max acceleration I can get, topspeed unimportant, so would it be better to go with the H22 5sp rather than the H23 5sp? Does the H22 have higher ratios on its gears?

Do they bolt up the same?

I've found prices anywhere from $500 - $1500 used!

Any tips on locating the tranny?

Thanks,
Swami

When I did my swap, I used the H23 tranny...Personally, for you and your H23, if you can find an H22 Tranny, I would use that for two reasons: First, the H22 Tranny is geared shorter (faster acceleration) - this is most noticable in 3rd & 4th gears of the H23 tranny.....Second, if you ever do a motor swap to an H22, you will already have the tranny!

I'd stick with H23 - takes better advantage of your torque and H23s have no top end anyway so why get there in a rush?

Thanks for the input.

well... Seeing that I am putting a priority on acceleration,
wouldn't I want the shortest gears available?

So..... cost??

So like 5th gear revs high at 60mph?? I might never leave town with this car, so I won't need to go over 50 except for when Im showing off basically.

Is there a walkthrough for the tranny swap?

If you're never going to go highway speeds then I'd go with the H22 tranny. Personally the H23 tranny is already geared too short for my taste. I always feel the need for a 6th highway gear because cruising at 3-4k rpm while going 60-80mph is a little high for my taste
