5lug conversion, add me to the list, 1problem tho

i finished my 5lug conversion today woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st - the parts

this has been discussed many times, but figured id list what exactly i used anyway.
-5th gen base wheels wrapped in brand new dunlop SP sports
-5th gen front knuckles, rotors, hubs
-5th gen rear spindles, hubs and rotors - bolts up directly to 4th gen rear knuckle

the front was cake, take out the knuckle just like the helms says, bolt in the 5th gen knuckle
rear was also cake, hubs came right off, giving me tons of room to remove the 4 nuts on the spindle, swap spindles, throw on the 5 lug hub. like i said it was cake

i didnt use the rear 5th gen knuckle because the sway bar endlink didnt look like it would attach the same way, instead of sacraficing my sway bar i used the 4th gen knuckle.

*********!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and now for the problem - abs light is on, well i know why its on but im looking for possibilities or resolutions others have found.

the abs sensor on the 4th and 5th gen ludes mount differently and because of this the 4th gen sensor will not work with the 5th gen hub. i looked at the what i could see kinda in a hurry, so i might have missed something, but from what i can tell i didnt see a connector anywhere near the sensor so that i could swap one out, with a 5th gen sensor, nor did i see a way to disassemble the sensor in hopes of swapping out the bracket it was a part of for a 5th gen sensor.

what did everyone else do about the rear abs?

oh and i love the new wheels =)

ill get some pics added here asap. hopefully tomorrow =) dont have any of the install, cause im broke and would rather buy parts to do a 5lug conversion than a digi cam, so im just going to have one of my friends take some pics of the finished swap

it was getting dark so i apologize for the quality. i also apologize for the lack of paint on the front bumper, its a long story.

Good work, nice parts list ...
Where'd you get them from / how much did the swap cost you?
g'luck with your ABS.

got the 5 lug parts from wreckdriver here on PO. if hes got any more, lol, i prolly took it all =) anyway quick delivery, good guy.

got the wheels locally.

in all ive spent around 500 for everything, quite a deal since i found the base wheels with brand new tires =) you should have seen my old tires, they were well... unsafe. brakes were toast too, too many sunday morning drives on the backroads =) so i needed rotors as well, which i got along with the parts.

so lesson for everyone, if you are needing brakes, hold out as long as those tires hold up, or vice versa, then use that money you would have spent on brakes and tires on doing the 5lug conversion. and you'll get sweet wheels with it =) no dont really do that, it can be very unsafe. but if you luck out and need them all at once, do this instead

I don't think this would be possible on a 4ws now would it ? ..

I dont know enough about the breakdown of the parts but I dont think 5gens (from USDM) anyways have what it takes to turn the back wheels ... hmm... a 5lug 4ws 4gen .... this might be something to research for when I have 700CDN kickin around..

what did everyone else do about the rear abs?

I did the five lug conversion on mine as well, but when I got the rear parts, the junkyard included the abs sensors. This would indeed solve your problem. I don't know if this is the solution you're looking for.

[but from what i can tell i didnt see a connector anywhere near the sensor so that i could swap one out, with a 5th gen sensor, nor did i see a way to disassemble the sensor in hopes of swapping out the bracket it was a part of for a 5th gen sensor. ]

If you follow the abs sensor up a bit further, you will see an orange connector. You will need to take the connector off the metal bracket before you can disconnect it. Then you can just plug the new sensor on. Now, if this proves to be a pain, you can always cut the wire, and splice the new sensor in. I had to do that on one side. Otherwise, I don't think there is any way to get the 4th gen abs sensor to work. Hope that helps.

by just looking at the finished swap, it does appear to sit in a little bit. its not really a noticeable difference, well to non prelude owners. i dont mind, cause one day ill win the lotto and buy me some volk SE37's with an offset to bring the wheel back out to the edge and have some sweet looking deeper lip wheels. =) really i dont mind, maybe it will have an impact on the twisties or whatever, but the slight difference cant make a noticeable difference in drivablity, or at least i cant imagine that it would

i think you'll be fine, you use the rear knuckles you currently have on the car, the rear spindles are the only things you need to swap and that bolts on to the knuckle. hondaautoparts 4th gen rear knuckle
in the diagram its part number 10 and 11 - that is the part you swap out, everything else behind that will remain the same.

hmm maybe i need to look for those, i figured that would be the only way, i just didnt see a connector on that sensor, i also didnt look very hard cause i was in a rush to get these wheels on =) ill see what i can find on hondaautomotiveparts.com

and pics are coming i promise =)

oh and if you dont already have a vtec model, im sure you will also need vtec calipers

It'll work with 4ws, I'm proof

Just make sure you're careful with the 4ws sensors, as I managed to disable one during the install and had to source a new sensor.

Very nice dude. Glad it all worked out! IMO, these wheels should've been made for the 4th gen.

You would need to use parts from a JDM 5th Gen w/ 4WS.

Hey X01VTEC

Great Job, but FYI, your rims are on backwards.
