Thanks in advance for any help that may be forthcoming, and apologies if this question has been answewd before.
I have a '93 Prelude 2.2 VTEC (UK car)
My problem is that on the way to work 4 days ago, about 10 seconds after starting the car, the ABS fault light comes on. After much cursing I stopped the car and restarted it at which point the ABS light goes off. After 10 seconds the the ABS light comes back on, except this time, about a minute later, the 4WS fault light comes on. Thing is, if I leave the car on, but don't drive anywhere, the ABS light remains off.
Bloody hell!
The brakes are still working, sans ABS, and all the fluid levels are okay. Does anyone have any clues as to what is wrong and am I going to shell out a fortune to fix it?
It could be a lot of things, there are a lot of parts involved with the ABS system, just recently the ABS light came on in my mom's car and it turned out to be the main computer and it ended up costing over 1000 dollars with installation. I'm also thinking that maybe the reason your 4ws light came on is because maybe when your ABS aren't working your 4ws disables itself because it could be dangerous in a quick braking situation if your rear wheels were still getting traction you could spin out real easy or something like that. This is a ramble because im messed up but i think im making sense

I've heard that the 4WS uses the same speed sensor as the ABS so if you have a problem with one of the ABS sensors then it could cause the 4WS to fault out. Just my guess. Good luck.
My 4WS failed once. It seemed that I was parked too close to a curb. When I drove off and steered, the rear wheels couldn't turn, which caused the system to fail. The dealer sorted it, which didn't take long. From what I could make out, it was a simple job to do.
Regarding the ABS, check to see if your brake pads are worn. The LED will light up if the pads get low.
Oh, and hello, I am from the UK too. Not many of use here!
Not trying to be mean but we don't have LEDs in our Lude to my knowledge, they are just colered plastic with a light bulb behind it-see you learn somthing new everday.
Jesus - you must have been close to the curb. I didn't think the rear wheels turned that much - though you can tell that they aren't working, so it must be enough to make a difference.
I don't know what code the car is displaying. Is there an easy way to find out?
I hope that if it is a wheel speed sensor it doesn't cost the earth. A few months ago I got an ABS sensor replaced - it cost me £150 (not to mention the £30 cost of getting them to "plug their computer in the diagnostics port")!

you can pull up the code by jumping the hareness behind the center console...its the same as when you jump the connector for a check engine light....you might want to search check engine light for a more specific description and pictures. As for the original question. It would like you have a faulty ABS box....you might want to try replacing it with a buddies that works and see if that fixes it....I have an extra one sitting in my room but shipping would kill....
