4WS Problem

I just got a 1994 4WS Prelude but the 4WS light in the dash is constantly on. Not sure what could be the problem.
Are there any common problems with it I can look for myself.

If it's on all the time..probably faulty sensor...if not..go to the dealership or a mom and pop shop to check it out...most likely malfunctioned sensor

mine's on intermittently... Previous owner had it chked out and it was a faulty sensor.

I've heard that you can really only get a quality check at a honda dealership since they're the only qualified techs for the computer... course that very well could be honda propaganda.

Jump the service connector and the check engine light will tell you the code for the 4ws

Here is a link I found. I went to the dealership to see if my car was covered. He said the database was down and that he would call me today, 7/16. He never did.

Do you think they will replace for free?

Reset the ECU. Do this by removing the fuse for the clock/radio for about 10 seconds.

Restart the engine, if the 4ws light stays on then you have a problem and should get it checked out. If the light os not on, then no worries.

With regard to problems with 4ws, if you are reversing and slightly clip a curb then the 4ws will be shut off automatically to prevent any possible damage. Sometimes, slow full-lock parking maneouvres can make the ecu believe there is a problem and it shuts the 4ws down. This happened to me, resetting the ECU solves the problem.

If the 4ws light goes off, but comes on when you are driving, you might just have a faulty sensor. If the 4ws works when parked, then there would seem to be no problem with the mechanism.

Dealer called today. He said that there is a recall for 92 Preludes with 4WS. Call your dealer and ask when you can have yours done. Print out the link I posted before a s evidence because otherwise they may not believe you.

I found out that mine has already been done. My sensor went off because I think my rear tire was under inflated. It only had 13 PSI in it. I recommend you guys checking your tire pressure too. May solve the problem. Ever since I filled the tires up to the recommended PSI it hasn't come on since.

If anyone else gets any other info about this please post.
