4WS and JDM H22 compatibility?

Is the JDM H22 VTEC engine compatible with the 4WS system in the 4-Gen Preludes? I'm close to getting a car, and I'm considering a 4-Gen.

Actually a regular VTEC ECU will work. My car was originally a 4WS prelude but I swapped in a VTEC engine. The 4WS computer doesn't interact at all with the 4WS.

So a 4WS would retain 4WS if a JDM engine were swapped in?

Do you mean "VTEC Computer"?

oye..... people people.... you do not... and i cannot stress this enough.... do not have to have a VTEC 4WS ecu. the 4ws has a seperate computer that does not interact with the main ecu. You just need any old h22a with matching ecu. No problems whatsoever....

my car is a living, breathing model of it.

That's what I meant.

I tried to say that the ECU and 4WS computer were seperate.

Isn't the 4WS ECU in the back.

I remember when 93si4ws found this out awhile back. It took him so long

Being as I have a 93 Si 4WS, this is verrrry cool news. Now I have to wait for my H23 with 72k miles to die Could take a while from what I've read about the strength of this engine...

this is a topic i still don't understand.... why do you want to go vtec? cause it's stronger? i guess you can say that... 30 hp stronger, but then again, it's literally $3000 just to swap in a full h22a (clutch, tune-up, and labor added). While with the h23a, you can easily go turbo and beat any damn vtec ass. While if you go h22a then turbo that's nearly $6k you're looking at. You can cut that bill in half or even better, build the h23a then go turbo for the same price. Trust me, a h22a swap into a prelude isn't much, people really don't give a **** that you have a JDM h22a just because the prelude already came with the h22a from the factory. It's not like a ek/eg civic with a b18c or h22a where there's alot of hype (show/race wise).

think about it....

If i didn't blow my h23a, i woulda just gone turbo.

Honestly, I think it's a preference. So far, I get enough $hit&giggles driving my friend's JDM H22, and stock '01 Base. The thrill of dependable all motor power.

I have yet to drive a turbocharged car (Nobody wants to hand me the keys) and I've been in a WRX. Turbos are a big kick in the ass, just like VTEC is...and besides, a JDM H22 is easier to maintain than an H23 Turbo.

I do, to a point.

If your h23 works fine, leave it be. If you have an extra $3k laying around, then go turbo, just remember that your engine life is going to be shorter.

I would have stayed with my h23 had I not blown it, that $3k I spent would sure come in handy right about now.

And an H22 in a 4WS is a big deal...
How many do you know of vs. regular steering VTEC's?

Granted the Ooo's and Ahh's come from the true enthusiasts out there that know the trim lines and option combination availability.
