It's a HONDA, change the oil and keep up to date with the T-belt and it'll die out about the time we evolve into another species

how to tell when to change the timing? I dont really know when the last time it was changed...And I dont really wanna mess with it LOL! Id like to do it soon but was wandering if there was a way to tell when it needs dun.!
Take off the valve cover and inspect the belt for any sort of damage or noticeable wear and change it if so because its alot easier and cheaper than having the head rebuilt.
change the belt prox. every 90 thousand but dont push it much over 100 thousand.. the hydrolic tensioner is what you really need to watch out for.. everytime the belt is changed change the hydrolic tensioner..(some people say just look at it and if its not leaking then its ok, but IMO its worth the $100 to get one from Honda and change it out everytime) if it goes out the pistons will push your valves into the head and thats very expensive if not a new head and possibly piston heads even..and everytime you change you belts ( timming and balance) you might as well do a water pump and all the seals that are in the area as well as a routine/ preventative maintence... i have 179000 on my 4th gen with the same motor h22a1 and shes still running hard so good luck
I have a 1995 Vtec with over 308,000 kms on the original H22A1 engine. Timing belt and water pump changed at about 290,000 kms last year. Mechanic said it was lagging when reved, like belt was slipping and not as responsive as it should be, so he told me to change the timing belt. Brother in law bought this car brand new back in the day, I took it in 2005 when it had about 260,000 kms on it stock. Don't know if the belts were ever changed so I didn't want to risk it and started fresh. This car still kicks with no sign of power loss since the day I got it. After some mods, I feel like the car only got better with age and people still ask me what kind of car it is cause it's now rare. When I tell them the year, I get the look. While filling up at gas stations, I get asked if it's for sale even though there is no for sale sign anywhere. I never had a problem with the engine ever so I'm curious also as to when it will ever die and then I can finally let go and look for a new car. Everytime I think of buying a new car, I just can't find anything else to replace the lude. It can still take on the newer honda's and it's already paid off, what more can you ask of a car that's almost 15 years young and still a sexy biatch!
