4th gen stock oil filters OUT OF PRODUCTION

Like the title says. You know how when you get a filter from Honda, there's a fat one and a thin one, and the fat one fits our cars? Well, they're only making the thin one now. So I might buy a whole case to stock up for the future. Or I might switch to Napa or something.

Anybody else heard about this?

Dan

the small one fits, it's just an "evolved" product... this has been brought up several times, part numbers can be found in a search

it doesnt matter, its just a thinner one. its thinner and will be made for all other hondas aswell so its not just our ludes. its just gonna help them keep costs down because its universal for alot of cars.

"Honda has recently discontinued the Oil filter part number 15400-P0H-305. As of September 7th, the Oil filter will be the same for all Accord, Civic, CR-V, CRX,Del Sol, Element, Odyssey, Pilot, and Prelude models. Honda has a new design that is smaller and more efficient. It is recommended to always replace the drain plug washer with oil changes."

I work at jiffy lube and every honda from 2000 and earlier use the same filter, except for the legends. I know it as a pz33 but for fram the number is 3593A. Most of the new hondas use what i know as pz109 and not sure on the fram number. The thread size and gasket size is the same, but the newer one is just thiner. All the new acura's still use the fatter ones.

no, i think thats the fatter one... cuz i ordered 2 fuel filters from manhonda and they said that they were only shipping the newer fuelers and my part number is the same as yours but ends in A02 instead of A01. and i think the one i have here is thinner and not as fat.

measure the diameter and height and ill measure mine.

got this off a message board

"there's two different filters they use for all cars except the Legend, one is made by Wix (better one) 15400-PLM-A02 and one is made by Fram 15400-PLM-A01

they come randomly since they're the same filter... but one is made by Wix and the other by fram, the Wix is the better constructed one..."

Some do, but not all. '03 and newer MDXs, all TSXs, and all RSXs use the thin one. TLs, CLs, and RLs use the fat one from the factory, but when I replaced them at work (Honda+Acura dealership) we used the thin ones.

Whoa- you mean I might be buying a Fram if I get a filter from Honda in the future? You can be sure I'm buying Wix filters from Napa from now on!

Screw that thinner oil filter, Why would you want one that is smaller and holds less oil. I use the fram tough guard, It has an anti oil drain back valve which retains oil for the next time you start you car up, which means quicker access to oil and better for your motor. Plus which that nice rubber grip thats on the bottom, I dont ever have to use a oil filter wrench to be able to take the old one off.

just my $0.02
