Of the 4th Gen Preludes - which is faster and...

what's the major differences?

S:
- 2156cc SOHC
- 135hp @ 5200RPM
- 142lb-ft @ 4000RPM
- 14" Steel Rims w/Covers
- Final Drive Ratio [MT/AT] = [4.06/4.29]
- 23/29 City/Highway for Stick
- 23/28 City/Highway for Auto

Si:
- 2259cc DOHC
- 160hp @ 5800RPM
- 156lb-ft @ 4500RPM
- 15" Alloys
- Final Drive Ratio [MT/AT] = [4.27/4.43]
- 22/26 City/Highway for Stick
- 23/27 City/Highway for Auto

VTEC:
- 2157cc DOHC VTEC
- 190hp @ 6800RPM
- 158lb-ft @ 5500RPM
- Same Rims as Si
- Final Drive Ratio [MT/AT] = [4.06/NA]
- 22/26 City/Highway for Stick

I've heard that the Si model is the quickest off the line, with the VTEC being the quickest overall in the long-run. Which is the better value as a used vehicle?

If you can get the VTEC model, go for it! They are difficult to find used. The Si has a more linear powerband, but the VTEC model would catch up fairly quickly later in the powerband. I wouldn't consider the S model at all...I would be disappointed with its power (similar to the 88-89 3rd gen Prelude Si at 135hp).

In Japan it's Type-S. Here it's just S. Not to mention they are both different Generations.

To answer the question (on stock cars) the S is slowest by a considerable amount, then the Si is about a half second slower in the 1/4 mile than the VTEC. VTECs will run anywhere from 15 flat to 15.3 or so stock, at sea level. Sis will run anywhere from 15.4-15.8 at sea level. The S will run in the mid 16s.

You want a stripped S model like mine and then pick yourself up a H22A... My car weigs in around 2750 (no nothing for options, not even AC) and moves pretty damn well for an old S. The best part is the look on modded 5th gen drivers faces when I pull on them with an empty motorcycle trailer on the back. (ok, it only happened once but I laughed my as$ off!! )lol!

Would changing the gear ratio on the Si down make it faster then? Also, is it possible and how to do it? I am guessing that chaning the differential or something like that would, do it.

Just remember that you can always swap an H22 if you like..if money is tight and you want a CAR first, go S or Si to get ya started, cause VTECs are always overpriced.
