4th gen. prelude advice, what year and model is best

well, i have a 1989 Prelude S right now. This was probably to dumbest mistake i have ever made. I put about $7000 into car in mods and fabrication. Remember, this was all not having to do with the engine at all. Now i come to the point that i want to get an engine swap, well as you all probably know the S model is carbed. So, the idea of an engine swap is totally out now. Now i need advice on which 4th generation lude i should get now. Anywhere from a 1992 to a 1994. I am still in high school and on kinda a tight budget now that i have to sell my 89 lude. (if anybody interested, just shoot me an email me at green6767@webtv.com) Anyway, I really need some good advice on what are the common problems with the 4th generation ludes and stuff like that. And what would be a good price on a prelude of these years. Thanks alot guys.

i would suggest a 92-94 si or even vtec. Do not touch the S, unless you are really tight on money it best to get an si, they make decent power, but if you want vtec, i would just get a vtec

it is true that all 92's have the h23 engine wich is non-vtech correct? And the year they came out with the vtech is the 93 H22 vtech, is this also correct?

I personally am looking fo ran Si 4WS, which they made until 94 in the US. Unless I do something completely crazy or outlandish (requiring large sums of money) I will swap an H22A in.... most likey of course plans do change

so a 93 vtech is pretty fast on stock alone, how many HP's? And why not a 94 vtech, are they worse or prone to **** happening or something. Just remember here, i have been around the 3rd generation ludes for a long time so all this is very new to me. Thanks

IT'S VTEC, VTEC, VTEC. A quick search will also tell you all the differences between the years and anything else that might help you decide what to get.

someone told me once.. one of the founders of hondaprelude.com that the best VTEC 4th gens are the 94/95.. i don't remember why

and the guy living in lancaster... there is a 92 Si 4ws.. red.. heated black leather interior outside York, PA... he wants about 8k for it... IT'S FAWKING AMAZING... i was going to buy it earlier this year but my parents said no.... email me if you want more info.. it has been for sale for almost a year.. no one wants it... and it is gorgeous as hell.. it is currently owned by a honda service manager...

Personally, I'd get a 94-95 VTEC. There's controversy on which model is the fastest. It's all hearsay I think. I'd choose the 94-95 for leather and for the centersole having a friggin' cupholder!!! I love my 93 VTEC but it sucks still not having any cup holders.

isnt the 93 the only year that came with non perferated(sp?) leather? i would guess most people would say 94-95 is the best because you get all electro gauges and odb1.

i don't know why but generally they do agree that 93 vtec is the fastest 4th gen, i saw that on hp.com, well, just make sure you stay away from 96 cause it's OBD II, that's what i have

ok, i have run into another problem. I have just redone my interior in me 89 lude S that i have right now. I know, i know, this is probably off the subject a little but i am trying to get the price to this car so i can get a 4th generation lude. Here it is, i have just redone all my seats in vinyl, metallic blue and silver. I just order metallic blue carpet for the car. Note this was all done before i decided to sell the car. I have all my plastic interior pieces sitting in my room that i was going to take to a body shop and get them done right in silver. Now, sure as hell aint doing that now since i will never get my money out of that. Should I put all the pieces back in the way they are. Which is the original dark blue, or should i do a "do it yourself" paint job with all those pieces. I do know the bad effects of a bad interior paint job and i also know the good ones from a good paint job. What do you guys think. Make the car look better (maybe more money on the sell) or just put the panel pieces back in w/o painting. Thanks again.

get a 94/95 vtec . You wont be disappointed and won't have to go through the engine swap should you decide you need more power. BTW they are hard to find. LOL. good hunting, took me 6 months to find mine and I got it for a sale off an estate sale with only I can't remember 60-70 K in 2001

I look in the Trade Express and Photo Ad each week; since I bought mine a year and a half ago, I've only seen 2 VTEC Preludes for sale; lots of SI and S models, though. I guess I lucked out with mine... found it a few weeks after I was searching for a car.

I don't mind not having a cupholder, since I never have a drink or food in my car. But it would be nice out of pure convenience. That, and I think the mirror controls are in the center console, rather than on the door; seems classier to me.

i herd 94 was the fastest anyways, get a car you enjoy sitting in and can put a fricken drink down and not worry about spilling it. the gauges are cool, and i love leather, there wasnt a doubt in my mind that i wanted a 94-95 vtec

That's complete BS though....there's absolutely no evidence that points to that, and my 96 OBDII was plenty fast, faster than every OBDI I've ever raced.....

That being said...go for a 94 or 95, best interior, obdI

ok, here's the trend:

how many people swap from H22 to H23?
how many people swap from OBDI to OBDII?
how many people do the OBII workaround?

people do things for reasons, we always going for better, if OBD I is not better than OBD II (performance wise) why so many of us bother to do the OBD II workaround and rest ecu every week?

i will stop posting in this thread cause i don't want to flame anyone or anything, i just want to say i meant what i said, and i felt the diff after the workaround right away, and i am not BSing anyone

Considering how old our cars are getting I'd go with the latest model VTEC with the lowest models you can find. Consider a 5G too, they're more refined
