In general, how do you guys feel about your manual transmissions. I know that quite a few 5th Gen. owners have had problems with theirs (Mine seems fine to me...), but I dont think ive ever heard any 4th gen owners complain about theirs. The most common things from 5G owners are the 5th gear grind and occaisional notchyness. And some have had to have shift forks or syncho's replaced to fix it. What about 4G owners. Do you guys have any similar problems?
I ask because Im considering buying a 4G transmission to put my Quaife LSD in. From what ive been told so far, it shouldnt be a problem to do this.

A 4th gen vtec tranny has betting gearing than the 5th gen, so that should help. The only problem I can think of is 3rd gear syncro wearing out but this is usally assosiated with high milage and is a common problem with all honda transmisions.
The transmission on mine has 98K, I notice a very small amount of grind in any gear. But every stick-shift I've ever driven has been like that (granted, they've all been used vehicles, never driven a brand-new one). I haven't had any serious problems, though.
I have never had any problems with my tranny in the 2 and a half years I have owned the car. The car has 117k on it... so I guess the tranny is pretty good. I also keep it well maintained.
at high rpms my 3rd grinds when i go in and my fifth almost always grinds unless i double clutch slowly

My tranny has to be babied when it's cold. I'll have to come to a complete stop to put it in first or it'll grind. 2nd I also have to shift slowly to keep it from grinding. Once it's warmed up though, it's WAY better. First gear I still have to come nearly to a complete stop to get it in without grining it, about 7-8 MPH or less. 2nd is fine once it's warmed up. No other problems. 114,000 miles.

forks sometimes lock up on mine. if i go to get it out of the driveway and put it in neutral sometimes it wont go back into gear unless i slam it. then its fine. reverse is really stubborn too sometimes i have to rock the car to get it in (go to first and make it slowly move so it goes about a few inches then slip it into reverse) although i bought it at 108k i dont know what the previous owners treated it like

My guess is they treated it like crap if you have to do all of that to get it in to gear. You really shouldnt have to "slam" the shifter into any of the gears. I know that my car can be hard to get into first at a standstill occaisionally, but its been like that since it was new, and this is "normal" for many manual transmissions, not just the Prelude's.

My tranny is wonderful, i bang through the gears when im racing and all is good. The only thing is sometimes i have trouble putting it into reverse, but 2nd or 3rd try usually does it.
