4th gen lcd indash

I stumbled across an old trick on this forum of putting a screen behind the dash... so I said sure, i was willing to do the mod because my da left my car unlocked one-time and i got the face-plate stolen off of my old crummy cd player, yay me right? anyway here is a youtube link, i was going to take more pics but my camera died after the first section of film, and i lost audio on the camera when i zoomed in and out dunno why, weird huh. oh ps i've been making music video cds with videos from spiralfrog.com so in other words its not just a music cd, but a music video dvd!!! surround and everything works great, got some tweeters out of a newer lude to top it off, i love junk yards, gotta a guy that has at least six of them in decent shape, more parts for me!!! i also had to get a new dash glass because my old one had spots on it from someone using too much armorall on it and leaving it on, tweeters, covers and a new dash glass ran me 30$, not too bad i dont think. the car is actually going into the shop next tuesday for a new paint job w/ f1 fenders, and a r34 octane vfiber bodykit!! i can't wait till a couple of weeks its almost like its christmas time all over again!! here's the link to the video on youtube, more pics to come soon, i promise. let me know if they don't work.
link to the dvd player from eonon (eo686 from ebay $188, but i got it cheaper):
Eonon

link to monitor of off ebay (farenheit 7" lcdtft monitor 79$) fits perfectly, just a little adjustment needed in dash where it was installed. the dash had a small rise i had to shave of a little to get it to sit just right, but the screen fits perfectly (search on ebay in indoaudio's store if link gets expired):
FARENHEIT T-7000MHR 7" COLOR TFT LCD HEADREST MONITOR - eBay (item 250229171252 end time Mar-29-08 08:42:42 PDT)

youtube video of first intstall attempt, will do a little more altercation to get a perfect kit, includint monitor shrowd to fill in small gaps b/w it and the gas gauge.: YouTube - prelude behind dash lcd tft dvd
more pics soon, i promise!

for some no, but judging by your posts/questions....yes

you would need some knowledge about installing cd players and taking apart your whole dash (and putting it back together)

oh and electrical work

it's really not that difficult to put in, there's actually some good pics and write-up on this site somewhere, can't really remember the link thought. just register and search. it really wasn't that difficult especially when i had the entire dash out of the car.

take out tweeters, then unscrew the 8 screws that hold the top molding... unscrew the right side of the glass (1screw) then the strip between the speedo cluster and fuel gauge (1screw), the black strip comes right off if you pull from right to left... there is also a screw about halfway above the glass and the tab (which is removed later so it fits flush against fuel gauge). once you get the plexi-glass cover off it is much more simple to see what needs to be done... a really good tip is to not throw away the dimmer white box... i used the left side to line my plexi-glass back up correctly... i wish i had taken pics of the whole process, maybe when i take it all apart again to adjust the screen for optimum view ill take more pics of inside the dash, but its really simple really no wiring expert neede. the monitor came with hot wire, ground and rca input so i just had to run the hot and ground to the cig lighter and the rca from my dvd player. the monitor also comes with a remote so i can turn it off if i'm listening to the radio. you just have to see what makes everything work flush, ie having to do some small dremel work to make the fuel gauge fit properly on right side, but the wire harnes stretched just fine so i didn't have to rewire the fuel gauge, that was awesome!!! i'm going to be taking the dash back out monday so i'll take some pics and maybe an overview of everything then... wiring wise not hard DO NOT cut factory speaker plug, get an adapter it'll tell you on each wire what it is and where it'll go, just match the adapter to the new head unit, very simple install really just take your time, oh i forgot there are some coverings that need to be dremeled on the plexi-glass and the clock adjuster has to be removed, still working on a way to get that to fit in, probably involving dremeling a recess into the fuel gauge to allow clock adjuster to fit, risky though, maybe i'll get another fuel gauge just in case? anyway pics to come soon!! once it goes into the bodyshop ill be taking pics every other day of the progress, some good before and after work...
